Looking for September 2010 Bandsters

Hi Cathy !

I do believe my Doctor does start with some saline in the band from the get go. I am pretty sure I got that answer when I asked. It seems to be light restriction but it seems to be working.

Which band did you get ? I got the Realize Band. I never even discussed it with my Doctor ... I assume he chose the one he felt was right for me. So far so good.

Hi Brian,

I too got the realize band and it holds 11cc. I did get a fill this past Wednesday but did not ask how much they put in. I don't think it is much as I'll be getting these fills for the next 3 weeks. I never discussed which band I wanted with my doctor. I just assumed he would pick the best for me since that is here area of expertise.

My surgeon only uses the Realize Band, so that's what I'll be getting. Though the other surgeon I considered uses the Lap Band, the actual band itself was never part of my consideration-- they seem to be the same to me

I was banded at 7:30 am yesterday & left the hospital at 2 pm. My only complaint right now is back pain & if I touch where my incisions are or cough, that hurts. I didn't sleep much last night which was surprising since I was up at 4:30 am as we had to be at the hospital by 5:30. I had trouble getting comfortable. I had a little pain, but not much. I didn't fill my percoset prescription & have just been taking extra strenght tylenol. I made sure I walked around the house for 5-10 mins every hour yesterday, maybe that helped. Today is beautiful out & I plan on taking some short walks outside. I am on Clear Liquids for a week. I'm diabetic so was worried about not having enough sugar. I was told I could mix 1 oz Water with 1 oz gatorade or juice, which I'm doing. But I was still worried, so I called my dr's office today & left a msg with their service. I got a call back within 5 mins - so whoever it was who had questions for their dr, call - there's always someone covering. One of the nurses yesterday came to talk to me yesterday, she was banded 8 yrs ago & has lost 100 lbs. I was glad she talked to me. I have to admit that I was getting down on myself yesterday that I had to get to this point, that why couldn't I just lose the weight on my own??? But I couldn't & thank God this was an option! After I started on this journey, my sister decided to do it also. She will be banded on Oct 1, so we will be going through it together.

Best of luck to everyone. And thank God for this site. I read it long before I started on the journey & have found it to be so helpful.

Hi I'm from Australia and reading your posts has me puzzled? Why do you have to wait for approval from insurance companies. I booked the date I wanted and just gave my health details to the doctors receptionist.

Welcome Moondarra. *shrug* It's just the way it works in the US if you want insurance to cover the cost of the surgery. Most insurance companies here put up lots of roadblocks to keep themselves from having to pay, and it seems like some insurance companies even deny the first time even if you meet their stated criteria. It's the nature of a for-profit private insurance market-- the less they pay out in benefits, the more their shareholders make and so its like any business where they try everything to cut costs to make money.

Maybe this will help.

Go to www. tickerfactory. com

Flip through the many pages of ticker rulers.

Once you find one you like, select the radio button to the left.

Press Next

Select a ticker marker that will move across the top of your banner, by marking the radio button to the left.

Press Next

Enter a password/pin in the box

Select the Public data radio button

Choose if you want to track your weight change, weight or waist.

Enter your target weight

Enter your current weight

Enter todays date

Press Next

If you like the ticker that you have created, then highlight and copy the bbcode (first box).

Now go back into Lap Band Talk

sign in

Click on "User CP" near the top left (under the pictures).

Click "Edit Signature" (3rd section down left column)

A little box will pop up like the ones do when we post.

Type a little message in the box. (mine says when I started, when I was approved and surgery date).

Once you have something typed then skip down a few spaces(by pressing the enter button), then paste the bbcode in that same box.

Now without pressing any other options, hit the Preview Signature button at the bottom.

If you like what you see, then press the Save Signature button.

It's done.

Before you leave the ticker website, there is a blue hyperlink that states, "IMPORTANT: To update your ticker, click on it or bookmark this web address:"

Click and Save this page in your favorites.

When you want to update your weight loss, go find the link in your favorites, enter your password and press enter. Then update your new figures. Press the next button. Your done.

You won't have to cut or paste anything else. By updating with the password/pin, tickerfactory will automatically update the changes on your signature page.

Hopefully this well help.

Good Luck.

Cathy

Cathy, you are way too kind to have taken the time to explain that. Unfortunately I did do all those steps and I still get an error message, I'm convinced that I've done all the steps correctly, I will follow your directions again tonite and see if anything changes. Again, thank you for your help, that was sooo nice of you!

jlr58: glad to hear you're doing well. Thank you for sharing your story. I too was so excited when I got approved and then a date and now I'm anxious and scared at the same time. I think can I do this on my own but then I have done so many programs out there; Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, NutraSystem, MediFast, injections, pills you name it I have tried it and of course they didn't work because I'm here. When I think of what I have done I know this is the right thing for me because I need not be ashamed and be happy with myself. Anyway thanks for sharing your story about the nurse that spoke to you....

Brian & Cathy: Glad to hear you are doing great!!!!!:bored:

Trying to figure out the ticker thing! Sorry I keep posting stupid things! I'm new here!

Hi HighloJack.

Did you figure out how to get the ticker yet? Don't feel bad because I had the same problem. I was able to create the ticker but then I could not figure out how to get it in my signature.

I had to get instructions from this LBT forum to figure it out. A member was nice enough to post instructions and I kept these step by step instructions. Just let me know if you want me to provide you them. My directions are a little different than the ones above and, best of all, worked for me!

It is difficult to figure out the LBT forum! LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
