For folks interested in participating in a clothes exchange over the next year or so :)

I have started a community here: Clothes Exchange for Bandsters

To join the community, you must create an account at LiveJournal: Discover global communities of friends who share your unique passions and interests.. Then, post a comment on the welcome thread at the community and you'll be granted membership. Once you've joined, read the rules, ask any questions you might have, and start exchanging.

You are also welcome to invite other bandsters you know who might not be on this thread, but I do think we should limit membership to bandsters.

It worked, I'm in. Thanks for your patience with me.

I can usually figure these things out so it must be the pain killers that the doc has me taking. All I want to do is sleep.< /p>

Cathy

Day 7 of pre-op underway...Its hard to believe that in less than 4 days, I'll already be banded! The diet was hard the first couple days, but has gotten MUCH easier these past few days. It's all worth it in the long run. Hope everyone is having a great day!

What band are you guys leaning toward? I'm waiting for insurance approval but so confused LAP-BAND®® or realize band?

I was banded this past Friday and got the Realize band. When I was leaving the hospital, they gave me the packaging with the serial number so I could go online and register with Realize for the extended warranty. Just kidding, I have not looked into the reason for the serial number but vaguely remembering something about the company wanting to track our weight loss with their product.

Oh Cathy.. u scared me there for a second then I LOL... if you go to realize.com or realizemysuccess.com (real neat website) you sign up and and you have access to tracking, nutrition and all other sorts of great things. You have limited access until you are give the serial number ( I guess they want to make sure you do have a realize band). I only have limited access right now since I still don't have a serial number. But check it out, another good resource... oh and you also get a nice mouse pad...

I am going with the realize band. My surgeon said there are few differences..but I like their website and it will be a great tool to utilize in losing weight.

pooky when you first started the pre-op was you still able to work, or did you have to take off.

I actually have been off work on FMLA since June 18 due to a shoulder injury....So I've been lucky enough to be at home. The pre-op diet has just about done a number on my gut though....I can't get too far from the BR (TMI I know, but the truth...)

I am going with the Lap-Band...only because I couldn't make up my mind, and my doc said he would just flip a coin! No, all kidding aside, I just really liked the Lap-Band system better, but it's really all in your doc's preference and what you decide is better for you. Check out the MyJourney on lapband.com and the realizemysuccess.com and see which website is better for you.

I am hoping to be banded in September, but I am thinking it will end up being October. I have my appt on Tuesday, which will be the last one I need (for the 6 months of nutritionist meetings). They said after Tuesday, they will submit to insurance to see about approval. Then, it typically takes 2 weeks to find out if it is approved by insurance. After that, I know that I will have to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery, so I am thinking it will be October for me.

I just want to get this going!

I went for my first visit on February 3, 2010. I have seen my nutritionist twice and gone through my psychological evaluation. I have an appointment with my PCP on Sept. 1st and my final visit with the surgeon is on Sept. 7th. Right after that all my paperwork will be submitted to CIGNA and hopefully I will get the green light I have been waiting for & can have my surgery by the end of September:thumbup:

Just a few more days to be in bandland!!!

Pooky, my pre-op diet isn't as strict as yours. Just a Protein Shake for Breakfast and mid morning; yogurt and a fruit for lunch, a snack (cheese, nuts, etc) and a dinner (1protein, 1starch, 1veggie). Even though the diet hasn't been bad my bad habits have crossed my mind this weekend. Last supper mentality, but got passed it--ate extra broccoli which is what I was told to eat more of if I was hungry. Sorry, I don't have any new Soup recipes for you, but maybe you can try one of RK's delicious sounding shakes.< /span>

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️

I started my 10 day pre op diet yesterday I need flavor!! I'm not big on the chocolate protein shakes so I just got to use up what I have was thinking about freezing it to make it like a ice cream so its something I can chew a little. You can try. I've read other people have had good results with protein-shake popsicles, etc. My personal experience with it? Sucked.

I tried making 'fudgesicles' with a couple different flavors of a premade shake, as well as a protein powder I blended myself and all of them came out revolting? The powder ones, all the protein sunk to the middle; the premade shakes, the popsicle had a disgusting texture and the protein seemed to leave a weird fluffy film on the outside? I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe look into flavoring additives? I was able to have sugar-free coffee /soda syrup flavorings, sugar-free drink flavorings and baking additives like almond, rum or pepperment extract. The extracts helped me the most as they added no extra sweetener.

On the other hand, if you can get your hands on an unflavored/unsweetened protein powder, the syrup flavorings are perfect. I love to use Boost "Just Protein" (which is unflavored) with milk and a Chai-flavored sugarfree syrup.

        Good luck!
