Another boring to fill or not to fill question...

Recommended Posts

I've had two fills since I was banded in February and have good restriction. I can eat literally everything but have been losing weight at a good clip until recently. Do I get a fill? How much? I have 5.5cc in a 10cc band. I love that I can fake my way through an expansive meal with friends and also be satiated with a small piece of fish for dinner at home. The trouble is, I do find myself thinking about food a good amount, I could definitelt eat white bread if I wanted to and my weight loss has been lackluster. I know this isn't an important question which is why I hid in on the fills board. This is all a loooong way of asking how you generally feel and eat BEFORE you get a fill.

My appointment is next week and I'm guessing a .5 or 1cc is in order but I'm just a little afraid. Things are decent now and I'm afraid to mess with a good (ish) thing.

Thanks!

You know the saying:-

"if it ain't broken don't fix it".

I would say that applies here. If you are comfortable where you are,can still eat healthily and are losing then you probably don't need the fill.

Even if your loss has stalled it does sound as though it is only temporary. I would be inclined to move my appointment forward a couple of weeks.

The very fact that you say "messing with a good thing" makes me think you probably have adequate restriction.

I can eat white bread if I want to and I'm all the way to goal and then some and I've been here 2 and a half years. Eating bread is not a measure you should use - how your weight loss is going when you do the right thing is the important measure.

Hmmm. Thanks so much for your thoughts. I'm just so tempted by the little boost that a fill should bring. I've lost 80 lbs with two fills and feel like I deserve a little "cheat". But, sadly, I think that you're right...

Thanks!

Oh, I absolutely agree with the other folks. Eighty lbs since Feb is great. You do sound like you are, probably, where you should be as far as fills. If you get to a stand still on your weight loss, you might want a .02-.05 cc added, but sounds good right now. Don't mess with a good thing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
