After my therapy session this morning with myself (well, it's really going on all the time in my head), I was contemplating the power of positive thoughts. In one of my many weight loss pursuits, I read a lot about the need to change the running dialog in your head to positive versus negative. I worked very hard at that in the past, but always returned to the same defeatest attitude and thoughts. Now, I realize that I am on a one-week post-op high, but I am so excited and feel like I have done something that I know I can be successful with for my happiness! Yes, I may miss some foods (a little) and I know I am winding my way through the post-op diets, but it occurred to me how positive my conversations with myself are :) I don't have the, "oh, just eat it, your going to gain it all back anyway," mentality. This is such a huge step we all have/will take(n) and I believe a lot of the power of the band is hope...which translates to positive thoughts and positive outcomes. Just wanted to share

Maybe that is the "magic" in the band for you. :)

You are doing great. Positive thoughts are so important but can be tough. It's so easy to beat ourselves up. I know I still struggle with it. Congrats on your surgery!

Congratulations on being banded, and thanks for your post! 1 1/2 years out from surgery, 100 lbs down--I STILL find myself forgetting or "slacking" on the positive mental dialog sometimes. So thank you for the reminder!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
