Dr. Atkinson/Dr. Soong, Las Vegas, NV???

Recommended Posts

There is very limited posting in the regional board, so I thought I would post here to see if anyone else is a pt of Dr. Atkinson or Dr. Soong at SWCC in Las Vegas. It can never hurt to be armed with more information going into my procedure!

Dr. Soong did my surgery in July, 2009. I was very happy with the surgery, after care and now my fills. Please contact me if you have specific questions, I will happily be honest with you about everything. Overall, I don't think you could find a better doctor.

Thanks, Raych. My surgery will be performed by Dr. Atkinson at Desert Springs. Was your surgery there, and how did you like the hospital?

Dr. Soong also did my lap band surgery in December 2009. No complications and has a great staff. If you have any questions or concerns let me know. Will be happy to talk to you anytime

My only complaint was that my surgery was scheduled for 9am and I didn't get in until about 3pm. Otherwise, it was all good. Just bring a book or something to keep you occupied while you wait. Since it's a one-day surgery it was fine. Good luck.

Did you still get to go home that night? I'm not scheduled to arrive until 10, surgery within 1-2 hours of that. :/

Yep, got home about 6. I think they only do surgery one or two days per week so they schedule quite a few. Just be patient.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
