do I need an unfill?

Recommended Posts

Ok, see post called "2nd fill a nightmare" and you will know what happened yesterday. So, I had liquids yesterday and this AM and now I tried a teensy bit of mushed potato salad and I PB'd. He said I only need unfilled if I can't get liquids down,.,,, but I am supposed to never eat again? I'm hungry!

Are you supposed to be trying mushy or solid yet??? My doc says minimum of 2-3 days liquids. Are you taking too big of bites? Try eating with a baby spoon and fork. That worked for me.

Could it be the potatoes?? Potatoes and me do NOT get along at all these days.

This happened after my 2nd fill.

In my opinion (from what I have read) Dr. Maese is a bit aggressive on fills. Perhaps you got too much to quick (fill wise).

Best of luck to ya!

Well, I am waiting until tomorrow to go off liquids and then I will try something other than potatoes. i just had tried that b/c that's what I ate alot when I first got banded. Well, he is obviously aggressive with the fills! He basically told me to get over it and didn't I want to be 120 lbs? I was like no - I would be anorexic looking at 120! But I am happy he does flouro and I have to go to him to get my insuarnce to pay for the fills. Well, If I can't get food down by Monday I will go get unfilled some I guess.

The band was not designed to only live on liquids, if you PB again, get a small ammount removed. As little as .2 cc's will make the biggest difference in being able to eat solids but still give you enough restriction to lose weight. have him take you down to 2.1 or 2 cc's, You had a big jump from 1.6 to 2.3...Good Luck and keep us posted :)

Heck I'd pb on potatos of any kind fill or no fill. Just say NO to potatos.

I say maybe keep trying. Aim for a no pb day, you are probably all swollen up.

And then if still a problem get a slight unfill.

Hang in there!

They were close - he wanted to "catch" me up b/c he said I should have had a fill 4 weeks after surgery, not 6 weeks. I dunno, I'm confused and irritated!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
