Hi! I've recently been reffered for a gastric band. I'm 22 years and weigh 19st.. My BMI is 43 at the moment. If i do eventually get the surgery on the NHS i'm worried about the skin sagging. If I excersise regularly will it keep the skin taught? With my age I hope it will stay firm!

I'm also interested in NHS information. Has anyone undergone surgery in the UK with the NHS? How long does it take from the refferal to see a surgeon?

Thanks x x x :smile2::confused::smile::confused::ohmy::confused:

I understand your concern. After all, a little saggy skin is much worse than unhealthy, repulsive, digusting fat... NOT!!

At your age, there is a good chance your skin will tighten up as you lose weight but that should not be a major concern. Worry about losing the unhealthy weight before you worry about how loose your skin will be.

Good luck

I would have to agree with btrieger! Listen kid, you are young and have better chances at everything rightnow. From recovery to adjusting every single aspect should be a none issue. I am not sure what NHS is but most insurances will cover apron removals based on hygene and cleanliness issue. All you have to do is create a paper trail that shows skin infections or irritations and they will pay for it. You will not get a full Tummy Tuck but you can get the apron removed (at least most US insurances will). Other than that the back pain, knee and ankle pain, diabetes, sleep apnea, high bloodpressure etc. is more dangerous than a little extra skin. Your time is NOW, dont wait.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
