I am having surgery August 12th, getting out of the hospital the next day. I have to return to work August 14th. What should I expect pain wise. :)

For me, there was no way I could have returned to work 2 days post-op. Pain was under good control with narcotic pain meds. But you DO feel like you got hit by a truck, very tired and sore.

My pain level never went beyond a 4 out of 10 and only in the first couple of days.

Is your surgeon OK with you returning to work that quickly? I'd also say have a back-up plan in mind, just in case you cannot make your return as planned.

Coco hit the nail on the head! I think you reall need more time. I have read here that some have done that, and felt terrible. You should take some time to heal. It is so important. Good luck!

I had surgery on the 15th and went back to work the 17th. It certainly wasn't the best day of my life but I had no choice, and as soon as I got home, I went straight to bed. It's certainly do-able, just not ideal. liquid Tylenol helped immensely.

I had surgery the 22nd and today is the 24th. I feel uncomfortable and bloated, tire more easily but overall I feel really well.. concidering. I don't think I am up for working but I can manage my errands and do a few things around the house. I think two days is a little early too.

Two days out I was tired, achy, weak, and shaky.... My calorie intake averaged 400-500 that first week or so, so I was fairly pooped. Good luck! If you do go back that soon remember to take it easy, sip all day, and rest as much as you can. (I went shopping on post-op day 3 and had to sit down and take a break halfway through the store. I didn't feel bad, just really really tired and weak).

I had surgery on 7/21 (last Wed) and I plan on going back to work next Wed, 1 week. While you are still bloated and fully on intra-operative gas, your body is still tired and will want a nap. I did drive 2 days out but had problems checking over my shoulder. Your post op care instructions should tell you that you have to be cleared to return to work. I would also suppose it depends on what kind of work you do. I went to the movies yesterday and almost blew up sitting still for 2 hours. Gas was killer! (not the kind Gax-X helped either)

Take care!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
