How quickly do you lose sizes?

Recommended Posts

What I mean is last week I ordered some new clothes b/c my others were a little too tight. They will be here today and I start my pre op diet on Monday. I'm wondering if I should keep the tags on them for now instead.

I spent $200 on them but I'm not sure I will get $200 worth of wear out of them now.

What do you think ?

I started my preop diet yesterday and I lost 6 pounds of Fluid. I know I can't maintain that but I figure 10 pounds will come off the first week of this diet. I would hold off on the new clothes.

I would send them back, in two weeks you will have your

surgery. For the last 4 or 5 months me and DH have been going

out shopping, Everytime he ask did I see anything I like, my reply was,

" no I will be losing weight soon put the money to the side I will need it later "

If you can get by with out buying new clothes I would.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I didn't get approved until this week and last week I decided I was tired of my clothes being so tight so I ordered new ones.

Had I known approval would come so quick I would have waited.

Personally I tend to lose sizes pretty quickly when I'm in the zone. I can lose a size a month is seems like...

Let's see...I've lost 53 pounds and haven't gone down a single pants size! Very frustrating, but I have gone down shirt sizes.

Hey, Spoiltmom, I just realized we have the same surgery date!!! Stay in touch, and I'd send the clothes back if I were you. We'll be losing sizes before we know it.

For me, I lost sizes very slowly at first. Perhaps its because I didnt have a "problem area" and carried the weight very evenly. I started out with a BMI of *only* 36 and I had to lose a good 30lb before I was down a size. Now, if I lost 6lb, I'd be down a size.

On second thought, I might keep one or two peices. It would be good to have loose fitting clothes after surgery. I've been living in sweats for 4 months now because I refuse to buy new clothes that actually fit! So I may be a tad biased, lol.

I'd keep the tags on and send them back. I got about 2 weeks of use out of my old clothes. I went from a size 20 to size 16 in 2 months, maybe 3, either way, maybe hold onto a few items, but I'd take a majority of them back.

LOL I'd die from heat stroke living in sweats here. Seriously. That's another reason I'm glad about my upcoming surgery. It's so flipping hot in TX and being overweight just makes it that much worse.

My weight was pretty evenly distributed over my body, and I didn't lose sizes astoundingly fast at the beginning, even though I have lost at the same steady rate since banding.

I'm down several sizes now, but the biggest size changes have occurred during the last 20 pounds or so. I could wear my earlier clothes a lot longer than I expected.

At my highest of 294, I was wearing size 26W jeans (I'm 5'5 1/2" tall). My size 24W slacks that I wore for work (as I refused to buy larger work clothes at that time) were so tight, the seams were bulging. It didn't take too long before I had to go buy new jeans, and I was very pleasantly surprised that I could fit into size 20W - about three-four months post surgery. Last weekend, about two months later, I'm now into size 16W jeans/slacks/skirts.

My blouses/shirts are a different story. I was wearing 3XL, some 2XLs, prior to surgery. I'm now sporting 1XL. I have gone from a 48I down to a 44G, and soon will be sporting 42F (or DDD). But I still have my muffin top, just smaller.

After I went shopping last weekend, I posted the story on my blog celebrating the fact that I was down to a size 16W. I bought my clothes at the Dress Barn. Well, someone who works there and updates their Facebook page found my blog post and linked it on their facebook. I'm not that thrilled about it (as I don't share my blog with my family or too many friends), but in another way, I was stoked by all the compliments I got from the comments. Check it out if you want at facebook.com/dressbarn. The blog is titled Sweet 16. Or you can click on my blog addy below.

Anyway, what I meant to say was that I am buying some new clothes as I go down in sizes, but just a few necessary pieces. Like last Saturday, I bought one new pair of blue jeans, one pair of slacks for work, a skirt for work, and a pair of capris for work. I also bought two pairs of new shorts, but I'll be wearing them quite a bit, and they were on sale. I also go to Kmart a lot and get their casual shirts and work out clothes, which are cheap enough that if they soon get too big, I'm not out of a lot of money.

Luckily, I can still wear my 2XL tops, but no longer can I wear the 3XL, as they are just way too loose and I'm swimming in them. I also really can't wear my old bras as my girls tend to end up near my knees as my old bras are also very loose.

Just try to keep an eye out for very good sales and buy what you absolutely need. It will help you maintain a good look (especially if you work in a professional office like me and can only get away for so long with wearing very baggy slacks) while keeping your clothing expenses to a minimum as you lose weight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
