I went to meet with my surgeon yesterday and I left feeling like crap!! A few weeks ago i was told I just need to have a pysch eval and 6mo diet history. I made my appt and thought i was well on my way until I found out yesterday that I have to have three more test and meet with the nutrionalist before they will submit anything to my insurance. To top it all off the Dr. was trying to tell me that I should concider getting gastric bypass because my BMI is 51. I said no I want a band but I am so frustrated:cursing:

My doctor asked me if I had considered bypass because of my high BMI but I simply told her that I did not want bypass and was there for the lapband. She said that bypass patients lose weight quicker but its also more for people who have 200 or more lbs to lose. My BMI is high because Im so short- I need to lose about 130-140 lbs. But I believe there are people here who have a lot of weight to lose who do well with the band.

My friends mom chose the band over bypass. She started at 350 and is now 170. She's done absolutely great with hers.

It is frustrating but you'll get there. Good Luck!!

I'm not sure why some docs insist on pushing bypass on everyone with a high BMI. Luckily, my doc wasn't one of those and he thought I would do well with a band. He was right! It's 2 years later and I'm almost at goal. I know you would lose faster with a bypass, but I never thought fast weight loss was the goal. I want PERMANENT weight loss!

I know this whole process is frustrating, but stick with it. It's worth it.

I can see where the frustration comes from. But keep in mind that the doctors (if they are really actual good doctors) they just have your best interest at matter! Talk it over with them before letting the frustration get to you. I know easier said then done but ultimatley you have to do what is best for you and if that is the LapBand...then stick to it!

Angel,

I am so sorry to hear about your frustration. I have my consult tomorrow and hope I don't leave with the same frustration, but feeling like I might. I don't understand why some offices aren't upfront with all that is required by the surgeon in order to proceed. It seems like you have the same insurance requirements as me, 6 mo diet and psych eval. What other tests do you have to do now?

I am praying for quick appointments for you so you can get through all the testing.

I look forward to following your journey.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
