How do you work the pre op dieat around your family??

Recommended Posts

I start my pre op liquid diet on Tuesday. I have a 10 day pre op liquid diet and then more liquids for 2 weeks after.

So here's my question. I'm a stay at home mom. We live on a small farm and my dh is a meat and potato man. He loves home cooked meals. My kids could care less though they really hate meals and would rather have junk.

So I'm thinking about telling dh that he's on his own. I can't see cooking a great meal every night when I can't even eat it.

Even when I'm able to eat real food again he's not going to want to eat what I'm eating so then I'll have to make 2 meals every night:(

How did you guys handle this? Advice please.

depends on what kind of liquids you can have. If its just Protein Shakes, clear etc, then you just cook and deal with it(why should they suffer when this is for you?) I didn't have to do a pre-op so I can't understand, but the post-op was just as hellish because of liquids only. But whatever they had (I fixed tacos one night and blended some of the meat, cheese and salsa and it tasted like taco soup) I ate it just in a different way. You could also make a lot of Soups with meat and potatoes and blend them but still if they are liver shrinking you, you just kind of have to deal with it. I wouldn't want to tell my husband to fend for himself or my kids to eat junk (though I can understand why you would want to). There's no better time to deal with willpower than now(it'll be worse after)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
