Feeling Guilty and No One to Talk With

Recommended Posts

I have only told my husband (who is so supportive) and one friend, who is going through the process with me. I will NOT tell my co-workers. It is none of their business. It is only my and my husband's business.

I know I can't keep weight off on my own. I need this tool, and I need to be accountable to someone besides myself. That is a private decision, and the world does not need to know my private decision.

I wish everyone who has written in response here the best.

So tomorrow is your day? Best of luck to you!

My surgery was April 7 and it was not as bad as I thought it might be.

I had guilty feelings too for being "so selfish" in wanting something just for me - it cost too much, it was because I was weak and had no will power, it was a burdon on my family to have to go through it with me, I am a failure and don't deserve it - those were my feelings.

Well, guess what? It was not as hard as I thought, I am already spending less on medications, my medical problems have reduced and so have all the worries about my health, and my family is so happy I am losing weight and can do more with them and enjoy life more. My "selfishness" has paid off in many ways.

Banding is not a magic bullet that works by itself, but it is a wonderful tool. If you work it, it will be worth it, believe me.

I wish you all the best. Your journey is just starting. There will be many ups and downs, but the band helps and we are here for support.

Let us know how your surgery goes!

Thanks everyone for letting me know I am not alone. Off to the hospital in 5 hours, so I am hoping for a little sleep. Can't wait to talk to you all afterwards....take care.

Thanks everyone for the support. My surgery couldn't have went any better!! Guilt feelings are gone. Now I just want to heal and work out and get back to some real foods...just smaller amounts than before. I am so looking forward to starting a new life. Right now drinking/eating only liquids still makes it feel like I haven't made it to the other side yet. But at least I can see around corner!! Feeling good ladies...feeling good!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
