2nd fill was a total nightmare!

Recommended Posts

So, I go in to get another fill b/c I have had NO restriction thus far. He filled me up 1.2 more cc's and I went over to the machine and drank the barium and PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN and then throw up throw up throw up. The I tried some Water and throw up throw up throw up! Then the nurse tried to unfill me and couldn't hit my poor so I had to wait for the doc to come back and all the while I was throwing up, feeling so much pain, sliming, etc. So, the doc removed some and now I have 2.3cc total. Anyways, I guess it's ok now. I've had water and Soup and I'm fine. I still feel grossed out though. I've never PB'd or slimed before and it was awful doing it on the barium!

Oh my goodness, how yucky! Ouch! Take it extra easy these next days. Your new restriction will surprise you, and you are no doubt swollen and tender in the band area from all that. Be VERY nice to your band.

I wonder how come they didn't leave the needle in while you went under flouro? I have never had a flouro fill, so what do I know, but it would certainly be worth keeping the needle "handy", as in, in the port! to avoid that scene. Wow.

Thanks for sharing the yucky stuff. It really is fun to read. LOL Sorry it was horrible though. :)

Ok, maybe I'm overreacting but I am still emotionally bothered about this awful experience I had today. My doc just acted like it happens all the time and it was no big deal but I'm still freaked out by it and I still feel gross. Has anyone else had this happen? I know I will be scares sh*$less to get fill #3 when the time comes.

Sorry to hear about your suffering.:) Wish you all the best.:D

I'm about to get banded soon, and just wondering, do you have to drink barium each time you go for a fill? Or each doc do the fill differently?

Dr Maese is a bit 'sure' of himself, from what I saw. Honestly, they should leave the needle in until they watch the swallow a couple of times, in case they need to back it off some. Sounds like his normal 'in a hurry' self. Sorry you had to endure that. It isn't typical. I only saw him once, but I found I had to really assert myself with him if I wanted to get in a word edgewise.

Yeah, I love Dr Barker so much but he doesn't have flouro and I need the flouro to re-assure myself that my band is ok, not slipped, etc. But Dr. Maese is definatley not as caring as Dr Barker.

My needle is always left in.. by the two good fill docs.. (the bad one had me drink Water AFTER the fill)

But the others had me drink the barium or the Water while the needle was still in and they were watching me or the screen very closely.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
