for once i have been told to gain weight and i cant!

Recommended Posts

my doctor recommended that i gain a few pounds before they submit my request for approval from my insurance company. i have a bmi of 39.1 and he wants it to be atleast a 40 so i don't have any issues being approved. i have NEVER in my life had a problem with gaining weight. However, my nerves are going a million miles per hour right now and i can not seem to keep any extra weight on. any suggestions of how i can gain a few pounds with in the next few days? thankss

Does your doctor weigh you fully clothed, like my doctor does? Ordinarily, this spurs me to go for lightweight clothes---but if you have the option, wearing a pair of jeans adds a good pound or two. Shoes add another pound or two...you get the picture.

I'd be pigging out on pizza with ranch dressing, ice cream, cake, hamburgers and fries, etc.... I definitely wouldnt have a problem putting on weight.

If your doctor really cared, he would not tell you to gain weight. He'd just lie on the paperwork.

i asked the same question but if something was to happen to me (which i know is very very unlikely) then he could get in trouble.

If possible have your appointment in the afternoon. Drink a large bottle of Water (32 ounces or more.), and have a large lunch or Breakfast right before the appointment. Water weighs a lot. If possilbe don't have a BM before your appointment. As mentioned previously were heavy clothes. Even with summer clothes some are heavier than others. Also not sure if you are female. I usually gain 2-3 pounds during PMS.

The only time I can think of that I need to gain weight is when I go scuba diving.

When I scuba dive I have to use these little weights that slip into my pockets to make me sink, a pound in each front pocket and 2 pounds in each back pocket. Plus the ones that slip into the ankle straps that keep my ankles from from floating up, I think they hold at least a 3 pounds each. I rent them at the scuba shop.

I agree with this as well...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
