Had baby and band doesn't seem to work

Recommended Posts

I got the band in dec 2006 and did great losing almost 100 lbs in 2 years with a total of 2 cc's in fills. I just had my 4th child in February by c-section and was very excited to get back on track with fills in May. I am now on 2.5 cc's of fill and I barely feel it! I am SO frustrated, continue to feel hungry and eat because of it, therefore gaining weight again in the process!! My PA is doing a limited upper GI in September so I hope to find out more. Anyone experienced this or have any suggestions? My PA makes me wait at least 4 weeks before she will look at filling again. If I can't feel it in the first week or so, I probably am not going to feel it after 4 weeks either. I don't understand why pre-pregnancy I was doing well on 2 cc's and now am beyond that and not feeling anything.

I don't know if this helps or not but the PA at my surgeons office said that after pregnancy the band will most likely work a little different. She said it was most likely because the band location changes slightly and restriction comes with a different amount of fill. She didn't seem to know if I would need more or less fill, we would have to wait and see but fill slowly because it would be different than pregnancy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
