Piggybacking on this thread a bit.

I too just got my Mirena out at the end of June. DH and I are trying to time everything, but my body doesn't seem to be cooperating. I had just finished my period when I got it taken out; then two days afterwards I started another period (June 25th). Since then, nada. I used to be 28 days regular even before Mirena, but now its been 35 days. And, I did take a pregnancy test and it was negative!

Anyway, my question is, did any of you notice an irregularity in your cycle due to your lap band weight loss when you had mirena taken out?

I had a period for more than a week after taking the mirena out. I read online that this is normal, because your uterus is shedding a lining built up by the mirena. My period came the next month right on time. I have always had regular periods except while on mirena. They completely disapeared.

I did however have a horrible experience with mirena. I gained 30 pounds and was exercising with a trainer and eating right with my band. I couldn't figure out what was happening. I got depressed, and considered medication. I had headaches all of the time and a strange vaginal odor.

When I finally came to the realization that the mirena was causing all of my symptoms I had it removed. Besides the week or so long period from removing it, I completely went back to normal. I even started losing weight right away.

But! I quickly began another change when I got pregnant the very next month with identical twin girls! I am 7 months now and have only gained 8 pounds (I am still overweight and haven't had an unfill, my Doc is okay with this). My girls are healthy and so far I'm having a great pregnancy.

If you read online about mirena you will find that people are all over the place with this birth control. Good, bad, periods, no periods, etc., you will find that almost no two experiences are alike. Some women haven even stated that it took a couple of months to get back to normal cycles- this may be your case.

Don't give up and best of luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
