Going back to work after surgery

Recommended Posts

I am a librarian and I am starting a second part time job this Tuesday. I haven't met with a doctor or anything yet, but I am done being overweight, having high blood pressure and having extra pain from arthritis. I have tried the usual diets and find it hard to exercise from the arthritis. I was wondering how long I would have to be out of work after surgery. My job is not a physical job, mostly getting up and down from a desk. I work about four-five hours at a time, so it isn't even a full days work. How long have most people had to stay out of work after the surgery??

I also work in a library. I took a full week off. The hardest part was sitting for 7 hours. Getting up and moving felt good.

Hi !I am scheduled to be banded on Aug. 9th (in 2 weeks:scared2:) and I will be off of work for 1 week. Most people I've spoken with and asked have said they were off of work for 1-2 weeks. Those who lift a lot at work were off a little longer. Good luck!:)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
