Jax 0 Posted December 1, 2005 I'm back from hospital having had my slipped band removed and replaced with another. I was supposed to have the op on Wednesday but when I arrived for pre-op tests on Tuesday they'd had a cancellation so I was done a day early. (Less time to worry). This op has been completely different to last time - for a start the shoulder pains from the gas. I was lucky last time and didn't get even a twinge. However, I've been in agony all night and haven't had a wink of sleep. My chest and ribs are all hurting and I can't breathe properly. Oh, woe is me! If anyone has any good tips to get rid of the pain I'll be really grateful to hear them.
Alexandra 55 Posted December 1, 2005 Congratulations on your rebanding! As far as gas pain goes, the usual advice is to walk it off. For me, all that helped was time. This too shall pass.
Iluvharleys 15 Posted December 1, 2005 I used a heating pad for my shoulder pain and it really helped me. Walking alot will help most of all with all the gas pains though. Good luck!
Teresita 0 Posted December 1, 2005 My traditional 2 cents, Gas X. Congratulations on your new band.
the best me 6 Posted December 1, 2005 Add to this, take regular slow, deep breaths, several in a row, as often as you can. Ahhh, I remember!!! It WILL go away. You have received good advice from the folks above. Congrats! Again! Rest and walk.
HarleyNana 10 Posted December 1, 2005 I had DH massage my shoulder and it felt so good and helped with the pain.
Jax 0 Posted December 1, 2005 Thanks everyone for the usual great advice. Just about to have a cup of peppermint tea. I'm trying the deep breathing as it seems to help but my lungs don't seem to have any capacity. Ouch. I wish the passing bit would hurry up!
Anwyn 0 Posted December 1, 2005 Glad to hear you're home and recovering with your new band! Feel better soon.
leatha_g 4 Posted December 1, 2005 Definitely exercise the lungs. The diaphragm/referred pain is due to the stretching/agitation of your diaphragm - sort of like stretching a t-shirt, it will take time to get back into shape. You'll notice it upon eating, breathing deeply, sneezing, coughing, but it really will go away in time. Walking and deep breathing exercises really are the best medicine. My second banding exerperience was totally different also. Good luck to you!
