afraid that surgery wont work for me...

Recommended Posts

Over the weekend negative thoughts came over me.

I'm on day 6 of my liquid preop diet. Surgery scheduled for 07/26. Somehow I'm starting to think that the band will not work on me.

I like real food. I dont really have a thing for sweets. I like pastas, Breads, pizza, all kinds of starches. I'm not into cakes , candys , ice creams and chocolats usually dont drink sweet drinks.< /p>

So am I worried for nothing,If I dont like things that slide through the band? Does someone here like the same that I do and was successfull with the band?

Same here, not a sweets person. I was banded on 6/2/10 and so far so good. Can't and I mean CAN'T eat any breads Pasta starchy foods and I'm ok with that I don't even crave them anymore. Hopefully it stays like that. Good luck

You should be OK with the band if you don't like sweets. In fact, liking sweets would have been a problem with the band, as it would imply you liked food that would slip through the band too easily.

You can have Pasta - I cook myself chicken, peppers and low-fat Dolmio/Ragu Tomato sauce (the prepared sauce that goes with spaghetti), and wholewheat spaghetti.

You can have baked potatoes. You can have most types of chicken and fish.

The band is for proper food.< /p>

The band will not work for you. YOU must work for YOU. You will have to overcome the things that made you fat. You will have to learn how your body uses energy and adjust accordingly. You will have to properly exercise and fuel your body.

The band only helps keep you honest. The band is only a tool.

So what's the common denominator in all of this???? You.....

Good Luck!

Brad

The band will not be a magic cure. As said, it is only a tool. A very helpfull tool once you have restriction. For sure, the fact you like "real food" as oppossed to sweets is not a reason the band won't work for you. Good luck!

You sound like you enjoy the same foods I do!!!! I was always a carb addict!

This is how I whitled down the carb cravings. After I got banded the majority of my meals were just chicken and steamed veggies. I quit buying garlic bread. At restaurants (such as Olive Garden) I would only make sure I had 1-2 breadsticks instead of the 3-4-5 I had in the past. pizza once in a while won't kill you. Just make sure you don't have it often and Pasta every once in a while is okay too. Just make sure to add exercise into your daily routine and make sure you don't have these things too often.

As you get tighter, certain breads will give you a harder time to enjoy and you will find you stay away from stuff like that.

Good luck to you! You can do it.

I'm about 2 months post op and have lost nearly 50 pounds. I love starchy, bready foods! I have managed to have some of these things while still keeping it low carb. There are options out there and I haven't found a food I can't eat yet. You just have to have it in moderation and be slow and careful when you eat. The band will let you know when you should stop eating. I admit I haven't been exercising like I should and sometimes overeat, but I keep trying to pay attention to stop when I'm full. I haven't had a fill, my doc said I was doing well enough without one. If I get one, I expect that some foods will be harder to eat. It is a tool, I still battle with the old demons that got me fat to begin with, but I'm telling you it's way easier to control myself with this band knowing the consequences than when I didn't have it. Good luck, keep positive and it will work for you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
