Afraid that surgery wont work for me...

Recommended Posts

Over the weekend negative thoughts came over me.

I'm on day 6 of my liquid preop diet. Surgery scheduled for 07/26. Somehow I'm starting to think that the band will not work on me.

I like real food. I dont really have a thing for sweets. I like pastas, Breads, pizza, all kinds of starches. I'm not into cakes , candys , ice creams and chocolats usually dont drink sweet drinks.< /p>

So am I worried for nothing,If I dont like things that slide through the band? Does someone here like the same that I do and was successfull with the band?

The effectiveness of the band is directly related to the effort you put in to it.

The foods you list as 'real food' favourites are all highly processed white flour products and responsible for your predicament.

We all make changes to live with the choice we have made to improve our lives. You will probably have to give up the majority of your processed white flour favorites but what will you be swapping them for...longer, healthier life? Fair swap or not?

It sounds like the band will be a huge help for you. You won't be able to overload on those carbs after you get to restriction. I can eat Pasta, some breads and the occasional bites of pizza, but with the band, I am full quickly and I can't physically eat enough of that stuff to make me gain weight.

I just gave this link to another bandster-to-be, so I'm going to post it here too. If you're worried about whether you'll be successful, why don't you write out a plan of the things you'll do to help make sure that you do succeed? I did that and thought it was helpful -- there is a link to my plan on the page, if you want to see it.

I do agree with Jalomum about the results being proportional to the effort you put in. I will tell you though that it is SO MUCH EASIER to lose the weight witht he help of the band. I know from many failed attempts that I could not have gotten off nearly 80 pounds on my own. Another great part of that is knowing that the band will help me to make certain that I never gain that weight back again.

I hope that helps!

Best wishes,

Catherine

Hi! Yes -- I watch what I eat within reason, but I haven't suffered because of it. I still have treats and enjoy good food -- I just eat smaller portions now.

I eat out several times a week -- it's not a problem. At first, I'd just go on-line and look at the restaurant's menu ahead of time to see what I could order that would be band-friendly, and planning ahead made it a lot easier for me. Nowadays, I don't need to do that -- there is always something I can eat (that I like) on the menu.

Feel free to take a look at my blog -- there is so much stuff on there, and I'm sure it will give you a good sense of what being banded is like.

Best wishes,

Catherine

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
