La_madam 20 Posted December 2, 2005 I've noticed that a few people on here have had surgery for a bowel obstruction. Is this band related, or just coincidence? I asked my Dr this exact question this past week while having my band removed and he told me it is very rare in lap band patients but more common in gastric bypass patients...bowel obsturction is usually caused my adhesions and since the lap band is done laproscopically adhesions are minimal unless of course you have had prior stomach surgeries like I have ( 3 c- sections) .My bowel obstruction was caused from the weight loss and the adhesions ( scar tissue from my 3 c-sections) the tubing got wrapped around my intestines since after my weight loss it had more room to move around in there. I hope this helps you some
Anwyn 0 Posted December 2, 2005 Very helpful - thanks! I've had two c-sections myself, so it sounds like I should take the extra precaution of a fiber supplement just in case. So, the tubing got WRAPPED AROUND YOUR INTESTINES? That sounds like something out of a horror movie... Thanks for all the helpful info everyone! You guys are the best. Jessiebear 2 Posted December 2, 2005 I just recently started working in a nursing home & a lot of the residents are on metamucil wafers that are apple flavor. One of my residents (who still has all of her faculties) told me that they are wonderful & really work if you know what I mean. I bought some just to try them & they do taste good, but they kind of stick to your teeth. LOL!
