3rd Week Post Op - Will this ever stop?

Recommended Posts

Air....I had a lot of air trapped in my stomach after the surgery. Used the gasx, walked, etc...It dissipated slowly and uncomfortably in the form of painful air bubbles that I could feel start in my stomach and move up through my chest.

Now, for the most part I'm fine during the day but, I wake up about 3 or 4 AM every morning with excruciating chest pain and I can feel I'm full of air. As soon as I turn on either side, these painful air bubbles start to move up through my chest. This will go on for the better part of the morning until around 10 AM. Every Morning. And it hurts really bad. GasX doesn't do anything for me. I kind of sleep fitfully in beween air bubbles for a few more hours, and it's bearable by around 6 or 7 AM. By afternoon, it'll be okay the rest of the day, and then I'll go to bed and it starts all over. I'll wake up in excruciating pain around 3 AM.

Did anyone else have this happen and did you find anyway to deal with it? Does it go away or does this last forever?

I used to get this now and again. It was as if someone was pushing their knee in the middle of my chest and their fist in my back....makes you understand why babies cry.

Sipping boiled Water or peppermint tea, as hot as you can bear, lots of little sips often helps to move it out.

OR... a tsp of bicarb in water...tastes foul...burps real good and brings the gas out with it.

Hope it feels better soon.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
