Need unfill or is this normal?

I had my first fill on Tuesday. Hunger wise I feel I have no restriction. I went off mushies yesterday and was ok but then today I had to vomit a tiny bit and have a few PB to get stuck soft food out of me. Now I feel everything going down including mushies like yogurt- it's uncomfortable going down.

Is it that the band is just now "kicking in"? Because I read somewhere on the forum that sometimes it takes a few days to feel the fill. But like I said I still have a normal hunger as though I could eat and eat.

So I guess I'm wondering if it's normal for food to still be getting stuck 4-5 days after the fill.

My doc is 2 hours away so it's a pain to go see him, so I'm hoping I don't need an unfill and I can go back on liquids for a couple days. I'm hoping I just rushed things too quickly.

As long as you are keeping fluids down you're okay to play with it for a few days and see if it settles down. Anytime I starting vomiting/PBing, I go back on liquids for a day or two then SLOWLY progress to soft/mushies to everything time to settle down. I've discovered sometimes my band/stomach/stoma get irritated by something and if I don't back off and give it a brek it just gets worse and worse. If you're having trouble with liquids then you need to speak with your surgeon ASAP.

Hi there!

For me, my hunger after my stomach empties feels exactly the same. To this day I'd swear to you that I could eat the same portions as before I was banded. My brain knows that is not the case.

As far as discomfort going down...it could be that you will need to adjust the way you are eating with each fill. Really tiny bites, taking time between bites to be sure things are ok. If you feel any pain with a bite, STOP eating. The less that is in your stomach at the time, the better. At least for me. I find if I stop eating as soon as I feel a bit of pain it will often resolve, but if I put more food down it can lead to nastiness.

Like Christie, after a stuck episode I go back to liquids for a bit to let things calm down. And if you can't get liquids down, call your doctor!

Thank you both. It turned out that I was just eating too fast even though I thought it was slow. :) I slowed down a looooot and I haven't had any problems since.

I have been a "speed" eater since childhood, so eating slow is almost painful for me and I find my shelf automatically going fast. I found a trick that helps me a little bit. I am right handed but if I eat with my left hand I REALLY have to concentrate on making my hand get the food into my mouth and am forced the think about it and eat way slower.

You know, I tried to practice eating slowly before being banded. Without the feedback from the band, I had no idea what 'slow' was!!

It takes time and some trial and error to learn the new techniques of banded living, but it is soooooo worth it!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
