Accountability thread for October Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Thanks so much. After 21 days I have finally lost another 2 lbs. So now I have 17lbs to go. I really would LOVE to get in Onederland. Only 3 lbs to go for that. I haven't been there since 1987. I think when I get on the scale and it says 199 I will literally pass out.

Losing 2lbs after a long stall is great! Well done and keep up the good work. You will get to Onederland, just keep up the good. I feel that losing 17lbs by October is achievable. Good luck to all of us.

OK, I was banded 10/22/09 and to date I have lost 30lbs (182.7lbs). I had lost 40lbs, but was severely sick due to a slipped band and was repositioned on 02/16/10. My fills have been going very slow, my doctor and I do not want to risk slippage again. I must admitt that I have not been eating the way I should, mostly sliders and my weight loss, or lack there of it, reflects that. I just had my 3rd fill on 07/13 and am @ 5.5cc's. I am back on track and looking forward to seeing the results of my diet & excerise. I've been challenged to a 5K in October, so wish me luck. All of you guys have done awesome, congratulations!!! I am so proud of you guys!! I'm planning on also weighing and posting my weekly progress, accountability!!

So good for you to join us. Good luck with the diet and exercise. I tried to update the original post but I can no longer edit. I`m going to try and sort that out for our updates.

Good luck with the training towards the 5K, hun. You and I are at similar weights now. I believe that when you get the exercise and diet going, you will be fine. You`ve been through a lot though and I`m glad that you have got some resolution now. I`m looking forward to your weekly progress reports. Good luck.

Here is my weekly check in:

I weighed in yesterday at 193.0 which is -2.0 lbs. from last week. This week I commit to riding my bike for one hour 4 days this week. I normally do aerobics- classes but I am going to change it up a bit and do the bike.

:) Thanks for the accountibility!

Okiegirl79, 2lbs in a week is very good. Well done. I`m digging the exercise routine as well. Good going.

I will jump through the hoops if I manage to lose 2lbs this week but I`m not counting on it. I had not have any restriction for 4 weeks and had booked for a fill on Friday. I`ve however been feeling restricted for the past two weeks and don`t think that I will bother with the fill.

I did some aerobics and rowing yesterday and went for a walk today. I`ve also got to up my exercise a little.

Let`s all keep up the good work.

Wow..that is really encouraging. Thanks!! :)

Rowing sounds fun...

I am studying for the CPA exam and I have some study material downloaded on my ipod-so I can listen to the material while I bike...I do love aerobics!!!

I think I could def. use a small fill but the last time I had a fill she put too much in and I couldn't even get down liquids. She took it back out. My docs office is three hours away..so it is a challenge to get there as often as I would like.

I currently have 5.8 cc's in a 10 cc band.

Good luck with your studies towards the exam. Regarding the fill, my bariatric team`s advice is that I got a fill as soon as I feel I needed one. As you, I have to travel a long way for a fill and it costs a fortune too since I`m self-pay. Well, it needs to be done. I`ve currently got 8.5cc in a 10cc and fairly restricted but I stall all the time. I`ve therefore decided that exercise is the answer. I intend to reach my goal so whatever it takes. Not easy though but nobody said it would be easy.

I was banded 10/06 and have lost 45 lbs as of today. Too slow and a disappointment. Have started exercising so hopefully that will help. I lose very slowly and b/c of that I get frustrated and then cheat. Vicious cycle.

TracyNYC, don`t be disheartened. The exercise should push up the weight loss a little. I read from your signature that you have 5.5cc in a 12cc band. That`s pretty low at this point of your journey. Is that intentional or have you experience some difficulties / complications? Hun, I know slow weight loss gets frustrating but it is not a race and we all lose weight in a different / unique pace. Let`s keep being accountable, share our experiences and encourage each other and we will all surely get to our goal eventually.

Please stay focussed and keep with the programme. 45lbs loss averages 5lbs a month and is within the 1-2lbs guidance given for the band so you are not failing yourself. You just need to break the vicious cycle and look at your achievement, hun. Good luck.

Thanks KCG-I have been filled since my ticker was posted. I can not figure out how to update the damn thing....My last fill was in May. The doc's office cancelled my last 2 appts. The 45 lbs is by my scale. I am waiting to hit 50 and then am treating myself to a Pandora Bracelet and 1 charm. For each ten I lose after I will buy a charm. 20 of the 45 was in the first month, so I feel really slow compared to others here. (I also am in the throws of a bad break up so am quite down on myself.)

I will stay the course and need to get back to my doc!

I`m happy for you too. 70lbs is not a mean achievement. Congrats, quite inspirational, hun. Have you got full restriction? I have put you down for 19lbs & exercise.

I think I'm in a good place with restriction - I can eat most things without problem (I just don't eat them most of the time)....I get what I consider full (now) pretty quickly (not like the full I used to experience, but just feels really slow going down and I take that as my cue that I'm done - no matter how much I don't want to be, LOL). I've actually only had two fills and have 4.5 cc's in my band - the last couple times I went in, they didn't think I needed a fill based on our conversation and my rate of loss at the time - not sure they would agree with that now since it's slowed down - but I don't want to be so tight that I get stuck on most things....I already eat pretty small portions so I can't imagine eating less, LOL.

Weight is the same this week as last week (even though I did two 15 mile bike rides this weekend):)....but it will eventually catch up to me (at least that's what I tell myself).

I was banded in Nov but would like to join you guys. Nobody has posted on nov site forever. I feel like I'm failing at this band. I haven't lost in forever. My band was to tight three months ago had to have it emptyed from vomiting. The dr said itt was swelling from the vomiting. so of course I gained some and was at a stall. still at 6cc which is better but just had fill last week and could be a tad tighter. I have lost one pound since my fill. Better than nothing I guess. I expected to have lost 10 pounds a months which has not happened. I am not able to eat much at Breakfast. lunch maybe cup to 1/2 cup Soup with vegtables in it. supper bout 1 cup. I do use the treadmill for an hour so I should be losing more. i did work out for three hours a day but it wasn't helping so i took a break from all that and went to an hour day. any advice would be good.

Can you share with us what type of foods you are eating on a daily basis? Are you getting enough Protein? Sounds like you are exercising (which always helps, even when the scale seems to stall - keep it up). Do you track your calories at all? If not, that might help you get a good picture of where you are at (nutritionally) and perhaps you can make some tweaks? I tracked everything I ate and all my exercise religiously for the first 8 months - it's only been the last month or so that I've eased up on that (I'm still eating the same way, just not tracking it since I pretty much know how many calories everything I eat daily are :tt2:). Do you get all of your Water in? Do you hold off on drinking while/after eating? Just trying to get an idea of where you are so I can offer some (hopefully helpful) advice. Have you taken your measurements along the way? That always helps keep me sane when the scale stops moving.

You appear to be doing very well, hun. Stalls are norms in this process. Wow! on your exercise regime. I`m envious of you, two 15 miles bike rides in a weekend is quite an achievement. Good for you. Keep up the good work.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
