Howdy y'all, it's me again.

Banded on July 1st and feeling frustrated. Even with an empty band, I feel quite a bit of restriction and I am only able to eat 3-4oz at a time... which is good.

My frustration lies with getting enough Protein and Water in each day. I've tried quite a few different Protein powders and the only one that I can stomach is EAS Myoplex 42g powder. Unfortunately, the Myoplex makes a very thick pudding like consistency (about 12-16oz). It's so heavy that I can only eat a teaspoon or 2 per hour and its too thick to enjoy. It's a chore to eat. If I thin it down to the consistency of a shake (which still requires a spoon to eat), it's more palatable, but ends up making about 32oz. It ends up taking the entire day for me to eat and I'm constantly feeling like I have a lead weight in my stomach, so I'm not able to drink much Water.< /p>

And to top it all off, forcing down that 1 Protein Drink only ends up giving me 42g of protein and my doc wants me to get 80g a day! GHAA! So frustrated! All I keep thinking is "I'm gonna lose all my hair and get that waisted-away look because I'm not getting enough protein in." I'm sick of eating nothing but this Protein Shake day in and day out, but what's the alternative?

P.S.- I've tried several of the liquid Protein brands, such as Isopure, but even the "unflavored" makes me gag and want to retch.:wink2:

Hi, this is my first post! I was banded on July 7, just 10 days ago. I completely sympathize with you over the Protein Shake thing, especially as someone who as always hated milk, the smell of it alone makes me gag and I can't figure out how to get enough protein grams in daily. I am probably getting in less than 1/3 of what I need to be. I am afraid of being malnourished so yesterday I forced down, while holding my nose, about 5oz of lactaid with strawberry IMetabolic which was a sample packet given to me by the nutritionist. That's all I had besides water all day. I don't think I can drink that again. I've tried SynerProtein vanilla flavor with water and ice, it's soy based and I can get that down without holding my nose. I know what you mean about being so full it's hard to get other liquids in but I am starting to think it's the type of protein that causes the problem. I am not sure yet if it's the whey protein or milky stuff that makes me bloated and gives my stomach spasms, but I am going to stick with the soy based products for awhile and see how that goes. I can't continue like this, there are a lot of good suggestions in this thread that I will try, thanks everyone.

I'm just over 3 weeks post-op and was having the same issue. I was drinking Special K Protein Drinks, and they only have 10gs of Protein in them so I asked my nutritionist what was best. She suggested a brand of Protein Shakes called Premier. They have I believe 32g's of protein, they aren't too big, and taste good. In addition to that, I eat/ate a lot of cottage cheese once I was able to. Approximately 12g's of protein per serving.

The Premier shakes can be found at costco, and they are about $18. for a box, which I believe has 18 shakes in it. Not too bad to get you through to the next step.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
