Mushy foods?

Recommended Posts

After being on all liquids for the last THREE WEEKS, I'm finally allowed to eat mushy foods. But the problem is that the only things that I can think of are sweet... yogurt, pudding, mashed banana, oatmeal. I'm not really a big fan of sweets, especially not as a meal. What were some other things that the rest of you ate during this stage? I will be at this stage for another three weeks, and I want lots of options!

When I was in my mushy food stage I loved scrambled eggs. My surgeon suggested that I used egg beaters because she wasn't a fan of real eggs. They kept me full the longest.

Well, I loved to eat this and it all has Protein in it so it added up the more times you eat this. I was stuck on it so I had it 3 or 4 times per day for almost 2 weeks..

Make a 9x13 or smaller pan

1st layer-cream cheese-spead out on bottom-2gr per Tablespoon

2nd layer-Refried beans-9 grams per 1/2 cup

3 layer- cheese and lots of it!-9gram per 1/3 cup

Then just spoon out a serving in a bowl and pop in the microwave.

If serving for the rest of family pop in the oven 350 for 10min or until cheese melts. They can eat with chips!

ENJOY!

I practically lived on blended low-fat turkey chili by Hormel. yum, yum. Refried Beans thinned a little with Tomato juice, tuna whizzed in the food processor with mayo, egg salad whizzed in the food processor (although that was not so fab texture-wise - the egg whites, even though chopped very small, made it grainy - yuck)

Just about anything you think of as regular food can be food processed into mush - thin with a little boullion or tomato juice or milk or Water - whatever goes well with what your blending to make it a little mushy.

I vote for chili too! I dont normally like anything spicy but it was satisfying and had the meat crumblets that filled me up. Also, it was convenient when i was out and about to go to the fast food drive thru (wendy's) .

The only bad part about Wendys chili is the meat.

I was told NO RED MEAT FOR 1 YEAR plus!

Red meat take 12 hours to digest..

So think about the fact your new pouch is about 1ounce, I don't want that sitting there for 12 hours...

So I make my own chili using ground turkey or chicken. After you add the seasoning you can not tell it is not hamburger.

Have you checked this info with a dietician or Inamed? I ask because I've never heard this and I've been reading about the band for quite a while.

I found this really yummy recipe on the Smart Bandsters website when I was thinking of things too eat. I was a little skeptical of trying it but I did and was pleasantly suprised....even the KIDS loved it!!

1 can fat free refried Beans

1 can enchilada sauce

Salsa

fat free plain yogurt - I chose to omit this

Put it all in the blender and heat in the microwave.

I added a spoonful of fat free sour cream to the top.

It was SOOOO filling and SOOO yummy. Hope you like it!

I hated this stage...I was gagged out on sweetness!

I chose alot of refried Beans...a soft omelette with peppers, tomatoes, cheese, and salsa...basically a breakfeast burrito minus the burrito...

My save for this week was instant mashed potatoes and stove top stuffing...I know it didn't have alot of protien but if I wouldn't have ate this I wouldn't have ate...

It's amazing I still can eat yogurt and pudding...I eat the pudding as a sweet snack when I'm in the mood and usually try the yogurt as a breakfeast...

It will be over sooner than you know!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
