My name is Suzanne and I currently live in Rennselaer , Indiana. I'm 24 and just got married 2 months ago to a wonderfull man named Scott. I'm 5' 5" and currently about 315 pounds with a BMI of 52.4 as well as my ideal weight for my height should be around 150 or so. I suffer from not only being over weight but type 2 diabeties , acute asthma , PCOS (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome) , spondylolysis & minor spinabifida (lower back) , I've got osteoperosis in my right knee as well as the start of arthritis in my both of my knees. I've been heavy weight for the major part of my life except I was a very active person playing softball , vollyball , swimming , riding bikes , and all the good stuff until the age of 17 when my knees had started giving me problems.

I've been doing a lot of reading since I've found this website and with a lot of encouragement and support from my husband I had decided to introduce myself and to congratulate a lot of you banders in your journey of losing weight in hopes I will soon be following in your foot steps and learning from each of your journeys of ups and downs along the way.

......................................................................................................

Also by chance , is there anyone else from Indiana who has gone through the lap band procedure and/or has Sagamore Select Insurance that would be able to help me understand what my DR needs to do or say to where they will cover this ??

Thank you both Banded_for_life and Renebean for the warm welcome...

Although Rene , I know if I don't then all of my problems I've got now will only worsen over time. Not to mention I am tired of bein' sluggish when I want to go out there and play softball or volleyball then realize I really can't because of my back goin' numb and my knees bucklin' on me.. Also if I ever plan to have kids in the feature then I've got to find my energy somewhere as well as get my PCOS under control...I'm just in really high hopes that my husbands insurance won't give me a fight but as far as my DR said in a past conversation with all of my health issues right now that can be better with a significant weight loss then she doesn't forsee it a problem gettin' the procedure done. So we'll cross fingers and I'll keep readin' up on things as my husband and I are waiting until the beginning of the year to have this done so my xmas dinner this year will be the last time I'll be able to "indulge" myself 'cuz I'm sure we all know what MY new years resolution will be .. lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
