Your No-No List...

Recommended Posts

Out of shear curiosity, I'm wondering what is on your food no-no list... I'm referring to the foods your body cannot tolerate (very well or at all) anymore with your band. I seem to be all of the board (of course breads like pizza and Bagels I will never eat again, but then again sometimes lettuce and eggs bother me)... so again, I'm just curious, what are the foods that YOU can't tolerate anymore?

My no no list is very long and it doesn't matter if my restriction is loose or tight.

-Bread (of any type)

-Pasta

-Rice

-Steak (any solid type meat really)

-Pork

-Eggs

-French fries

my list is much longer, but these are the things that come to mind

I have my band semi-loose, I can eat anything but untoasted white bread and oddly enough, bananas.

This is one of those topics that varies so much from person to person. I am at a pretty tight level of restriction. I have to pick food choices that coincide with my restriction at that given moment. I would never try pizza on a stressful morning. But it goes down well on a relaxed evening.

Just the other day I had a run-in with fresh blueberries during the late morning hours. The skins gave me major fits. But the following evening - no problems at all.

So long as I pick carefully, there really isn't any food I can't eat - at some point.

If I chew well I can eat absolutely everything except for eggplant.

For me, I won't try chicken breast or turkey breast. Other than that, it depends on the day.

In a public setting, I won't try soft breads/bagels, just in case.

My band is fairly loose. I am contemplating another fill, so the list may change soon.

Hummingbird what do you eat. That list doesn't seem to leave you much?

Hi

My band is weird, one day I can have eggs, the next it wont happen! So far I can have a small bite of something. Now I have an issue that I knew was coming up but I ignored it till it caught up and that is Gout. I don't have an enzyme that breaks down purines so now my diet has changed!

No red meats

No Whole grains

No Sweets (not even sugar free)

No peas or lentils

On top of what the band will or wont let me eat

I can't do chicken breast

Bagels

bread

So there is my issues...but it is all good, I am working through this and you know what it is all good because it makes me healthier!

For me my no-no list would consist of:

No Ice Cream

No slider foods

No drinking with meals...

LOL I know that was not what you are asking, but at one time I was so tight those were the only ways I could eat. It caused alot of problems for me. I'm one of the ones who absolutely must leave my band semi-loose. It took awhile for me to get over the fits and come to terms with this.

Really the only things I've noticed that give me issues are any meats that are over cooked. I can pretty much eat anything I want and as long as I'm not drinking with my meal I do get full in a reasonable setting.

I wish I could be just a little bit tighter, but I think I need to work on my head more before I do that. I don't want to revert back to eating unhealthy just because they go down easier. I will get with it, and when that time comes I will go in for an itsy bitsy more fill.

Potato in any form other than mashed

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
