Adjusting to food -- gas anyone?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experienced trouble with your system adjusting to the different food stages for healing?

Specifically, I am moving from Clear Liquids to full liquids as of today. I am worried that I will develop more intestinal gas (not surgery gas) as my body tries to adjust to the different food.

Sunday I will be at a social event, a small group meeting indoors...plus a long car ride down with two other people. I wont go if I have a lot of intestinal gas or am likely to have it when we go out to dinner (I'll have broth).

Gas X helped this morning.

Thank you for any and all responses!

hiddn :)

I hear you!

Protein really seems to set mine off along with drinking to fast (too much air?).

I think everyone can hear my insides. It is like an earthquake with multiple after shocks. I have found it is somewhat better when I take the gas ex right after I finish my Protein intake. I hope our systems adjust. I am only on week one. I am contending with post op gas trapped along with intestinal gas. It really hurts at times and can be more vocal than we would like. Hang in there.

:) Andrea

Not to put too blunt of a point on the matter, but I feel like I could power the entire Gulf Coast with the amount of gas I have had since surgery.

It gets better, but I am still prone to a spontaneous "toot" now and then when laughing really hard or if I bend over at the waist. My 8 year old niece finds this hilarious.

The backside.... Burping becomes difficult with the band, especially after a few fills.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
