Approved Anthem Bc/Bs surgery 7-27-10

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone this is my first post. I found out Friday I was approved by my insurance(anthem bc/bs) for surgery:thumbup:. I am scheduled to get my LAP-BAND® on 7-27-10. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I have been reading alot of forums on here and it has really helped me understand the pros of listening to your surgeons advice and the cons of going against them. I am really excited, scared, anxious, happy, and worried, all at once. I have been researching LAP-BAND® for around 4 years now and I am finally going to get it!! I look forward to having this site to help me through my journey.

Congrats, congrats, congrats!!! How long was the approval process? I have BCBS TX and my paperwork was submitted yesterday via fax. I called today to confirm that they received it and they told me that my doctors office needs to obtain pre-certification before they receive my paperwork. Was this true for you as well?

I think that's pretty good. I only had to pay I think 10-20% but no more than 1000 and they ended up covering the whole thing.

At what part of the process does the doctor submit the paperwork? I have BCBS also.

I have BCBS thru the UT System in texas. I had a 6 month pre op, 5 year medical history requirement, and got approved within 2 weeks of the submission. :blushing:

I was rushing for approval and actually was able to send it in a month early (even though I had 6 nutrition visits but doc wanted 7). MY BCBS benefit for bariatric changes on Sep 01, 2010 to a $5000 deductible!!! As it stands now, i'm responsible for 20% maxed out at $1750. only a $250 (already met) deductible. I am VERYYYYYY fortunate i got approved and schedule before then!

sugery is aug 13!

Hey Angera,I am scheduled to be banded on August 16th. What day is your surgery? Dr. Scott is doing the single incision. Who is Doctor?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
