Losing Motivation!!!!

Recommended Posts

I am about 9weeks post op and have lost about 31lbs so far but I am finding it harder and harder to get out the door and get going to the gym!!!!! How do I keep myself motivated? Don't get me wrong I am thrilled with the weightloss and I try not to over do it with the eating basically stay around 1000 to 1200 calories but the gym part is killing me just seem to be losing interest. Any ideas?

Are you bored because you are doing the same things every time you go to the gym?

Is there something you can do to make it more interesting? Such as listening to your favorite jams, or maybe watching your favorite TV shows?

Are you doing more of the workouts you don't like and not enough of the things you do enjoy or don't mind doing?

Just some questions to ask yourself. #1 workout rule, do them. The longer you go without doing it, the harder it is to pick yourself back up.

Good luck, and I know you will find a way through this. It's a lifetime commitment, so think of it that way. It's something you have to do, always - a part of living, breathing, eating - and exercise.

I guess it is doing the same thing, I do about 40minutes on the treadmill and then about 15 on the eliptical machine. Maybe if I break that up with some more weight lifting that would do it and yes I watch tv while I am there it just doesn't seem to do it though. I just need to get back to going 5days a week, I am prob. down to about 3 days right now.

Aha! How did I know it was routine boredom? ;-) I'm only teasin ya because I go through that all the time. Try some new machines... venture out. Take some workout classes. I bet you're back into it 110%

All the best!

I have been a life long gym rat and now that I am beyond my muscle building years I have the same problem. If you are still young, working on strength or body building followed by 1/2 hour of cardio makes for a much more interesting workout.

Also, there are other fitness activities. Look for a cross training gym, get into kettle bells, take a martial arts class, yoga, swimming, etc. If the weather is nice, try bike riding, wind sailing, kyaking or anything to get the heart rate up. Many local malls even do morning mall walks where you can meet people and even do some window shopping.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
