Blue Cross/Blue Shield California PPO

Recommended Posts

I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPo insurance. I live in Los Angeles County and have a $6,000 deductible. I have already paid $3,500 this year in other medical expenses.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of insurance? What was your outcome? Were you approved? If so, how long did it take for you to be approved?

thanks :]

I have BCBS but HMO Access+ and I'm in NCal. Is the huge deductible because you are choosing a surgeon outside the network? Is there someone down there who is reputable that could be less expensive for you?

I'm just curious, that's almost half what it costs out of pocket - the deductible including what you paid so far...

For me I did not really take all that long. I was the one who took my time with it. Once I made the decision I could have been banded within 3 months and I dragged it out to about 6.

Let us know how it goes!

usually a PPO will always have a higher deductible/OOP (out of pocket costs)....and its not til that is met than will the surgery be covered at the said % rate....

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
