acid reflux in the middle of the night and morning.

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody. I was banded Mar. 02, 10. I got my 4th fill on Thursday. It put me at 10cc in a 14cc band. Since then I have a little acid reflux at night and morning. I can eat fine afterwards. But only small portions as long as I chew well. Water goes down fine. When I was at 9cc's i could eat practically anything, not as much as I used too though. Is this normal? Can this be my so called "sweet spot". Any info would be appreciated.

First of all be careful with rapid fills they can cause band erosion. Second of all be careful with acid reflux i had it one time and went to my doc who did an endoscope check ( no other test can show erosion) and low and behold I had erosion. I was 7cc in my 10cc band at the time.

Getting fills so fast in those 4 months i was banded could have caused the erosion. Also you might have 10cc in your band plus air which can cause some eating problems.

Maybe you should ask for an endoscope exam. xrays and swollows to see if liquids pass through your stomach will not show erosion.

This has happened to me. My advice is to start taking a strong antacid. If it continues, or if you are coughing a lot you are probably too tight. I would give it a few days to calm down a little. Sounds like you are eating fine, don't forget to hydrate too! When I have acid reflux I don't feel like drinking but they have told me even 2 oz here and there really helps with overall hydration. If the acid relflux continues at night, definately dont eat or drink before bed. Hope that helps.

Acid reflux is a sign that your band is too tight. You should have some fill removed.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
