Hi, I'm new. I was going to get the surgery last year but I thought I could do it on my own. I did lose 15lbs with the help of a friend but gained it back later. I am getting the psy and consult with a dietician this week. I am attending the seminar Wed. I am excited. I am doing a lot of research.

I had a lot of things that changed my mind for me, unfortunately I started my journey over 3 years ago and now as of July 1, 2010 I am banded! Long journey to start a NEW journey but still not any regrets! Still on liquids....hate liquids....but I have started naming them...instead of chocolate Protein Shake it's a yummy chocolate/hot fudge shake with ice cream. Anyways....good luck with your journey sometimes it just takes a little more time to get to the place you need to be!

thank you for responding. do you mind if we keep in contact. i can learn a lot from you and you from me. when i had my psy done last year, i was told that i didn't need it and the Dr. would not approve me getting it done. She was over 300lbs and unhealthy herself. I love exercising but it is the snacking. when i don't see results when i exercise, i give up. i want to see results and i believe that this will motivate me to exercise more and eat right. how is the surgery and pain. i hope you get to your goal weight. please let me know how things are going.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
