First Day of Pre-Op Diet, help!

Recommended Posts

Ok people,

Today I started my pre-op diet and I am having a hard time with it, I guess you can call it withdrawals! I have a terrible headache and I am feeling a little weak. I got pots of Soup boiling everywhere I turn! So far today I have had one Protein Shake, Water, propel, sugar free Jello, and Soups. Just the broth basically. I make a killer caldo de res or beef stew but I can't eat any of the veggies or meat right? Just the broth, I can already tell this is going to be a long week. On the sunny side of the hill this day is almost over. Get me to where the good recepies are! I feel like I am going to need lots of support here, feeling strong but uncomfortable.

Today is my first day too - and boy, I have run the emotional array... I have cried about how awesome the change will be....I have moped about wanting a cookie... I have lied in my bed and thought, I will never make it. And it's like only 7pm.... HAHAHAH. I know tomorrow will be easier and so on and so on - but how dramatic can I really be? Keep rocking the soups! That's awesome.

I was lucky that i didn't have the headaches but your lucky that you get the jellos and the broth and all that other stuff my pre-op diet was 5 bariactric advantage Protein Shake and unlimited Water. THAT WAS IT! it was insane i made it through one day at a time never thinking ahead because when i did i really started wanting some food. I did sneak in a couple of sandwhiches the first couple of days:blushing: but i kept it simple weat bread with a slice of cheese nothing else no mayo or anything it would help take the edge off. I also snuck a weat sandwhich with deli chicken breast no mayo either on that one. But it is important for you to stick to the diet as close as you can but never it a acutal meal. Because that just makes the surgery last longer. My surgery was postponed by two hours because the lady that went before me didn't do her diet correctly and she was on the surgery table for 3 hours before she finally came out. So its totally worth it to keep with the diet. U never wanna be put under for to long cause that just makes it harder for you to wake up and be ready to go home the same day. It also helps ajust u for when you get out of surgery because you can only drink liquids in small amounts post-surger. Well good luck with your diet if you need advice I'm happy to help just send me a message :grouphug:

I have the same list - except that I am allowed 2 cups of lettuce per day :) What fun...

The crazy thing I have noticed today (day 3 of 14) is that I thought I was well hydrated before - but obviously not because I have to pee like every 30 minutes - whoo hoo!

I just completed my first day on the pre-op diet as well. It was a little tough at work when I smelled the popcorn my co-workers were making, but I toughed it out! I'm only allowed to have 2 Protein shakes and 1 Soup a day. Today I had the soup for lunch, but I think I'm going to try the soup for dinner tomorrow so I end the day a little more full.

It's not too bad though. The Protein Shakes actually taste pretty good. I'm using Jay Robb's whey Protein powder. It has 25 grams of Protein per scoop. I made a recipe one of the nurses gave me for a chocolate shake with Peanut Butter and it tasted similar to Reese's! Or maybe I just really wanted it to taste like that...lol.

One day down, 13 to go! I can do this!!!

The diet went well, I must say that I did cheat once and that was pure Protein on day seven of the diet. I had my pre-op appointment and a follow-up with my surgeon and to say the least it was an emotional day. I went and had some Pho the Vietnamese Soup and had the broth and about six slices of thinly sliced beef. Other than that the first day was the worse one, in talking with my dietician she explained that my weakness was related to me working. I am a firefighter and she thought that liquid only was not enough carbs and calories. Other than that I had a decent time on the diet. I just had my LAP-BAND®® placed on Monday 07/19 and I am dealing with the pain pretty well, coughing is hard and passing gas is worse! Being accostumed to the diet made the surgery alot easier since I don't have to worry about getting used to a new diet. Also, stick to the diet because the clause in the documents for surgery always read "Placement of gastric band laparascopicly possibly open." I am not sure about you guys but I would have been seriously dissapointed if I had to have an open band placement because I could not follow my diet!

I've been having a horrible time with my pre-op diet. I was really good the first week but this week is very very rough. What determines the length of the diet? (I know it is determined by the Dr) But I want to know WHY some drs give pts with a higher BMI than mine only 1 week. My BMI was 40 and I was in the middle of the 1 and 2 week diet so they told me 2 weeks. I am trying, but am very hungry and grouchy. I'm hoping this becomes much easier after the surgery and the hunger feeling goes away.

I start tomorrow - I'm on 3 Protein shakes a day, 1 control bar, veggies (steamed/raw, no adds), sugar free Jello, Popsicles, and fat free broth.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE, WE CAN DO IT.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
