I was banded 9-1-09 (so 10 mos ago?). I have lost 130 lbs so far (YAY!!) and am the smallest I have ever been as an adult. I have done this with no fills at all. Nothing. My band is completely empty. Even the 2cc of Fluid that came in it has been removed. I had to have my port removed last Nov (3 1/2 mos post-op) due to an abcess around the port and he removed that 2cc then. So I don't have a way for my band to be adjusted, even if I wanted it. I have exceeded what my surgeon projected at my pre-op appt. He says he has had a couple of patients to have success with minimal fills, but none to have no fills.....until me.

My question is this: has anyone else experienced this? I am just wondering how common this is. I am definately NOT complaining (or trying to brag)! ROFL! I watch my carbs/sugars/fats very closely and work with a trainer 3x a week.

Am I just weird?

Maybe you are weird (you said it, not me!), but well done just the same! Congrats on your losses so far!!

Apparently the band in place offers you enough restriction for you to be successful.

Maybe the rest of us fixate on fills too much?

Congrats!

I had surgery three weeks ago and haven't had a fill yet.

I never feel hungry now and get full from very small meals.

It seems to me that for some people just having the band in place provides some level of restriction.

First off congrats!!!

Not odd at all. I think most could do it if they put their minds to it and kept a positive attitude.

I've lost 138 pounds since September and didn't even have surgery until March when I was already 95 pounds down.

I did not get banded to lose weight. I can do that on my own. I got banded as a failsafe because sooner or later I will slip and I want it there to slow my decent.

It looks like yours may be playing the same role.

You are not weird I only have 2cc's in my 10cc band and I can hardly eat. It feels good to hear that there is someone else out there like me; I thought I was weird. I was banded 5 months ago and I have lost 45 lbs. Congrats on your weight loss.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
