I attended the seminar in October 2009, I didnt get to see the surgeon until Dec 9, 2009. After that I attended all the monthly meetings, saw the surgeon 4 times, saw the nutritionist 4 times, and had the mental health evaluation. I dont know what took so long because my insurance only required 3 months of supervised diet. As soon as they put in the paperwork to BCBS a week later I was approved...I was approved in June 2010 and that is when they called me to tell me my date was set for July 13.

Aweseome! Am sending you best wishes!! Be sure to get up and walk around as much as you can after the surgery (when your Dr says it's OK) b/c that will help with the pain from the gas they use. I was surprised by how easy the surgery was and hope you will be too.

Write down your measurements tonight & take some before pics if you haven't already!

Best wishes for an easy recovery and lots of success!

Catherine

Hi everyone, thanks for all your replies. I had the surgery on July 13th and everything went well. The pain was not as bad as I thought it would be. The first 2 days I had the gas pains, but nothing the medication couldn't handle. I went back to work yesterday and I feel great. Started Mushies today and Oh do they taste so good.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
