For my female bandsters!

I’ve now lost 61 pounds and beginning to notice something new! It appears that I’m once again on a normal monthly cycle!!!! I had a hysterectomy in 2000 and kept my ovaries, so basically I can go through a regular full cycle – just no period. For the last ten years that “normal” cycle only happens about every 3-4 months. Now for the last 3 months, it’s been happening every month! Breast tenderness, cravings, hunger for no reason, slight Water retention and worst of all PMS! I’m 49 and just figured for the last 10 years I was that all favorite word of premenopausal…….

Has anyone else noticed a difference in their monthly cycle after losing a large amount of weight?

I've only lost 20 pounds, but I had cramps for the first time in 10 years last week during my first period since losing any weight. Interesting.

Gosh, how amazing, I've also lost 61lbs and have had two periods after a gap of three years of having none at all! Apparently when losing lots of weight that the hormones really waken up again.

Well, I'm your age, I've lost a lot of weight and I've got the exact same thing going on. Last year, I had 3 periods. This year, so far I've had 6. I've always thought that it was more the peri-menopause thing than the weight loss, but I really don't know. All I am sure about is that my period now arrives completely out of the blue and whenever its the most inconvenient. I, too, get the PMS and particularly the breast tenderness. I keep wishing there was some way to move this along quicker. Got any ideas??

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
