Ok so I was 100% sure I wanted the Lapband. I've been doing research for about 6 months and it made the most sense for me. I am a single mom of a 2 1/2 year old boy (and I mean SINGLE ! No man at all and no family except my sister who will only babysit once in a blue moon) So if anything happens to me I have little support. But I went to my seminar yesterday and learned about the sleeve. It is less drastic than the bypass but still body altering. And the woman made it sound like there was very little chance to loose 100+ pounds with the band. I am 310 and my goal weight is 150-160 depending on where I feel confortable. Now I know that wls is just a tool and I have to change my lifestyle and I am ready to do that. But I hesitate to spend so much money on the band and not lose my excess weight. But I am not sure how I will manage with the time off work with the sleeve. And the thought of something so permanant scares the shit out of me. I would love to hear from people who changed from lapband to sleeve or just people who have had the sleeve especially single mothers. I am just so confused and want to do the right thing. Thanks!

Nicole

I just notice that this was not answered ::-)

I am new on this board....

But I was informed that the 'sleeve' is just a stepping stone. The sleve is for those that are too big for the bypass. They get the sleeve to loose enough weight to get the bypass.

I thought I was going to get the lapband and now I am going to get the gastric bypass due to the higher sucess rate.

.Yesterday at work (I am a groecry checker) A lady came through my line. She was complaining that she needed to eat more. I asked why, and she told me she had had gastric bypass 12/11. I told her I had lab band 4/11 and she said "well I have lost 48 pounds since December" so I told her I have lost 107 since April hmmmmmmmmmmmm which is the better route! Oh and all she eats are Protein Shakes and Protein Bars and Vitamins That is no life, I prefer my lab band healthy diet life!

I can't answer your question about the sleeve, but I started out at 324 and am now 244 after 4 1/2 months with the lapband. It is slow and steady progress. I plan on losing the weight and I'm willing for it to take some time. I had to pay most of it on my own and it is worth it to me. I hope this helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
