OMG!!! I was banded on June 28th...My hubby took me to Taco Bell today and I ate half of a soft taco and I wanted something other then Water to drink, so I got the frozen strawberry margarita drink, well half way through I had a thought that the drink might be carbonated and asked the hubby to try it. Well guess what it was! Feeling kind of full we walked around the grocery store then all of a sudden, I had to through up, running through the store I get to the bathroom and NOTHING, just a HUGE burp and some white stuff. I felt so much better afterwards, but then 15 minutes later it happened again, then again! I'm wondering what caused it? Was it the drink or did I get something stuck...Let me know you all's thoughts are, cuz I definitely DO NOT want to go through that again!!!

Thanks guys!

Sounds like what is affectionately known as slimeing. It is not good, but not unusual. It may have been the drink. Be carefull of carbonation, also drinking calories is not ideal. I don't drink anything with calories except a protien shake at Breakfast. Best wishes!

If the drink was frozen it was highly unlikely to be carbonation. The bubbles don't withstand freezing very well! It is more likely that either

a) you ate too much

:) you drank too soon after eating

c) or you were eating ahead of your diet progression. I don't know what your Dr has advised but most advise 2 weeks liquids after surgery. So I would have thought that you should still be on liquids. Even if you have been progressed to mushies a taco isn't mushy.

Yeah I am going to have to go with Elcee on this..probably the wrap on the soft taco was too much to handle or process (or too much food as Elcee said). Drinking to quickly after eating = sliming...or if something is stuck you can slime as well. I do eat at Taco Bell but I also waited 2 months..12 days post op may be a little too soon. It may not be the best but I eat the mexican pizza..the middle of it..it is the "mushiest" to me. I hope these responses are helpful and I wish you the best!

Thanks guys for your response! Whatever happened I do not want it to happen again. I was told that as long as I chew, chew, chew, I could eat soft foods and a soft taco would be okay if I could handle the wrap! I guess that is a no! Anyway Taco Hell is not in my near future! Thanks!

You will be very unusual and extremely lucky if it never happens again. Most bandsters experience this more than once.

Yes, you will slime again..unfortunately you learned very early on what it is all about. I really think the wrap was too much to handle. It would be too gooey to process in my opinion and then followed by the drink..that just makes me cringe but we all have to live and learn. Just check off the box and start tomorrow on a fresh foot!! Take care!

Oh by the way, I just don't know what I would do without this site! Thanks!!

Oh wow... sounds like one of those "perfect storm" situations... One of the things that I notice is that I have a hard time with flour tortillas (unless they are "crispy" like a quesadilla) and also I have issues when I drink cold (like the freezie drink) right before eating - it causes your band to tighten up. So don't fear Taco Bell - just try eating different foods - I personally like a crispy taco and pintos and cheese. Good Luck to ya! (Seems like every day we learn what works and what doesn't!)

I can eat tortillas but if I drink something too soon after, it swells in my pouch and causes the slime. I bet if I drank something right before I ate it the same thing would happen.

This happens with anything that is soft. Imagine putting something in a bowl of Water, if it would swell up, then do not drink with it. EX. Rice, bread, tortillas, etc.

By the way, refried Beans were a life saver on the mushie diet. (With cheese!)

Cold Fluid while eating tightens the band. I don't drink anything during a meal. Nothing until one hour AFTER the meal.

My surgery was 4 months ago and I don't anything doughy things like the soft taco. Crispy would be OK. No toast or bread either.

PB at least once a week, even when I'm careful. But I've learned, when I'm full - stop eating or I will pay for it.

For me, the key is to wait between bites. The full 30 seconds. This is hard to do when eating out, because there is nothing to do during the 30 seconds except watch other people eat. If I concentrate, I can feel the food moving through, and I can tell when it is time to take the next bite. If you get even two bites stacked up, you can experience this especially if you are drinking liquids at the same meal. At home, I watch tv between bites, and the time seems to go by faster. I have been a fast eater all my life, so this is my biggest challenge. Other people are always looking at me, or art least it lookes like it to me, including the waitress!! I am learning to ignore other people, and do what I need to do. It really makes a difference!!!! Hugs!!!

Thanks for all of your responses! I tried some yogurt this morning and I have had the same feeling, I'm just hoping that I am sore from yesterdays episode. I guess I am just going to be on liquids for a couple of days until I feel better! I just hope I didn't mess anything up!

I don't work well with the soft burrito wrappers because once it breaks down it becomes a doughy glob that is bound to stick as it doesn't take that much.

I order a pintos and cheese and a chicken ranchero soft taco off the drive thru diet. I empty the contents of the chicken ranchero into my beans/cheese and its way less than a cup of food. Holds me for hours. Great lunch.

For me I cant eat and drink with in 5 min of the start and the finish of eating. I slim all the time, but sometimes are way worse than other times, its all trial and error. I cant really eat in public cause I worry about sliming, good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
