Hi everyone! biggrin.gif I'm a newbie from Houston, TX. I was banded on 11/17/05. I'm really excited that I found this site. I have been reading a lot of the posts & I find comfort in knowing that I'm not the only one out there. As for my family and friends, they are all very supportive, but cannot relate to my experiences with the band. Good luck to everyone & I look forward to hearing from some of my fellow bandsters out there!

Welcome!

I was banded in Houston also. It looks like we are around the same weight, you being lighter... I was banded on the 9th of November and I have lost 20 lbs. I love this band. My family doesn't understand either. My hubby does tho and that is all that matters to me. If you want to email me or PM me sometimes, go ahead!

Congrats on your NEW LIFE!!!

Thanks for the "shout-outs" everyone! Its been a rough day - I've been hungry all day think.gif . Is this normal? Could it be that my post surgical stomach swelling has gone away & I haven't had a fill yet? think.gif I look at the progress on everyone's tickers & it is encouraging me to hang in there.

Hey, girl! It's always nice to have another Texan around the boards! Remember you do not have any restriction right now, and ALL you should worry about it taking it easy on the food so your band can heal correctly. That's ALL. You will lose weight anyway, you're just gonna have to gut it out through some of the hunger pains. Keep up drinking liquids constantly...don't wait until you are hungry. Keep drinking.

Post any questions here, and people will be running to answer them!

I'm up around Dallas (north of there).

Cindy

Welcome to the board! You'll find that there are quite a few Texans around here. Hang in there and make sure that you are drink enough Protein Shakes or try Isopure. It will help with the hunger.

Hey everyone - thanks for your words of encouragement & all of the advise. I truly appreciate it.

I go see my surgeon tomorrow. This will be my 1st post-op appointment (because of Thanksgiving - had to be delayed a week). Keep your fingers crossed that I've healed enough to have my first fill. I'm a little nervousnervous.gif, so wish me luck. Take care everyone - I'll let you know how it goes...bunny.gif

Hello! Seems like everyone is from around Houston! I am up in the Panhandle, between Amarillo and Lubbock. My surgery is May 9 in Mexico.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
