I was banded on 6/15/10. I followed the liquid diet for 10 days post op. It was fine at first but then I started to get really hungry. I had severe hunger pains. On day 9 and 10 I cheated and moved myself to the pureed food stage. When I told my Dr. at my post op appointment he said to me why didn't you move yourself to the next stage. (The dietician was very adamant about not doing this) I told him I did with some mashed potatoes and some applesauce but I still didn't fill full at all. What he said next was so surprising to me! He told me to eat regular food b/c I didn't have any restriction yet just to be careful and chew chew chew. I think if the dietician knew this she would have a fit. I did what he said and I have been able to eat anything! I'm eating like i did presurgery but trying to watch and make healthier choices. I lost 10 pounds on the liquid diet and now I am just maintaining. Just wondering if I’m hindering myself or hurting my band placement. I do fill some things getting stuck if I don't chew enough or swallow a large piece but after a minute it makes it way down. I’ve also had a few sodas and they don't seem to bother me either, no bloating or anything. Has anyone else gone through this? Did your doctor tell you to eat normally? Starting to think I won’t ever fill full with less food and worrying that I’m stretching out my stomach or something. I have not vomited, been ill, felt no adverse effects just mentally driving myself crazy. :)

I'm eating soft solid food in my 3rd week. I didn't have to stay on a liquid diet. Your surgeon has given you the ok to move on to solid foods. He wouldn't tell you to eat them if it wasn't safe. Don't worry. Just make sure you chew and eat slowly. You should already feel full with less food.< /p>

I was banded on 6/30/10 and when I went to my post-op appointment, my doctor said that I would most likely be on "regular" foods by the time that I had my first fill and he ok'd me to go to soft mushy foods. I have been eating a lot of salmon and mashed squash but I have also found that I am maintaining my weight instead of loosing. Even though you are handleing the solid foods well, I wouldn't push it, I have heard that getting food stuck is a terrible experience. I made the decision to not go to solids until after my first fill and only when I am ready. I don't want to go back to my old eating habits and I most likely would if I ate whatever I wanted. Yes, I am hungry but I am determined also. You can do this..you wouldn't have taken the step to have surgery if you didn't want it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
