Midwest ice/snowstorm

Recommended Posts

Our misery started around noon Sunday. First rain, then freezing rain, then sleet, then more freezing rain, then sleet, then wet heavy snow and blizzard conditions. Temps in the teens and no heat or electricity till late last night. Several tree limbs down, electric wire to garage down, tail light of my PT Cruiser busted out, but we weathered the storm just fine. Some advice to people east of the this nasty, evil storm. Stock up on batteries, flashlights, food you can eat out of the can or box, have an emergency plan, alternative heat source, (other than electric or natural gas), Water, money, etc. BE PREPARED for the worst! I grew up in Michigan and lived through some NASTY blizzards, but this one was one of the worst I have ever saw! Best of luck to you all.

Wow I feel for you.. The worst we got in my area was high winds. Tore the lining of the car port and a couple of poles came down. I have not looked at our truck yet but hoped it is not scratched. Anyway keep warm and hopefully the sun will come out soon and melt that mess away..

We got hit Saturday, they closed the airport in and re-routed us to a different airport with a "good luck finding your own way to where you were going."

Saturday we had white-out conditions and it's snowing again.

Oh great. It's supposedly headed our way. No wonder it was gorgeous out yesterday and freezing cold out again today.

We just went shopping today, so at least we're stocked up on food.

My goodness, a "white out" is only something Ive heard about.

We get snow on the average of 1 every 10 years... I cant even possibly imagine a WHITE OUT!

Shoot I would just settle for some rain. I thought I heard the weather guy on channel 5 say the other day that we would not get any rain in the DFW area for the rest of year??? Ouch!! Although I do feel for the banders and family's in the path of the blizzard and hope everybody comes through just fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
