5 Days - still nauseous. Advice?

Recommended Posts

Got banded on saturday, July 3rd. Water is generally OK, as is Gatorade in small amounts or popsicles. But every time I try some Protein, like in a really thin Protein Drink, or some powders? utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury powder very diluted in water...about an hour or so later I have awful nausea. One bandster friend thinks I may be dehydrated because I am not drinking enough water (which is true)... but generally just not interested in putting anything in me. I have kept from vomiting, but have to get past this nausea and have to figure out how to get some protein in me. Popsicles are about the only thing I am enjoying. I am having the sugar ones, as sugar has not ever made me jittery.

Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

Matt

I'm sorry you are feeling so crummy.

Try drinking/sipping some liquid Jello.

Don't drink it hot, but in it's liquid form. It helps get rid of the nausea.

Keep trying with the Protein. You will be able to drink it soon.

Thanks hummingbird. Trying Jello today and so far it seems to be helping.

Any other thoughts out there?

I was just banded last week. For the first few days, I was getting nauseated when I was hungry. Are you only having Clear Liquids? When I was, I started having an ounce of warm chicken broth every 20 mins or so. It felt so much better than Water. I did that for a couple of days before I tried a Protein drink.

Thanks. My mother in law is bringing me some broth this afternoon. Hopefully I will have good luck with it. It does feel like some of this is from being hungry. Although I do not want to eat anything and I have lost 22 pounds since I started my preop diet.

It definitely feels super weird at first. I couldn't tell if I was hungry or sick. It's kind of like having a new stomach and we're still learning how to understand it. It will feel better in time. Just make sure you're putting some kind of food in there. I hope the broth helps :)

My surgeon told me to call his office if I got nauseous at all.

Make the call to your surgeon's office. It's free.

Other than that, you talk of Jello and Popsicles, have you tried diluting the Protein powder in warm broth as kcarny said? The cold may be bringing on the nausea.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
