Slim Fast for Pre/Post Diet

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone:

Did anyone use the low carb slimfast plan for thier pre/post diet?

I have been trying and they are not bad but it only comes in vanilla and chocolate. I bought the strawberry but it is not to high in Protein.< /p>

I like the premade drinks because I don't have to make them.

Thanks for any advice.

Debbie

My nutritionist specifically said "100% whey Isolate" for the pre-op and post-op diets. I'll be heading to Vitamin Shoppe on Monday to pick mine up. Hope I find something fairly yummy!

Personally, for the pre op diet I would only consider a proper Meal Replacement programme like Optifast.

Protein shakes are a dietary supplement, not a Meal Replacement 3 times a day for weeks on end. If you read the labels on a box of Optifast, you will see that all your Vitamin and mineral requirements are being accounted for. Protein shakes often contain nothing but Protein, and a lot of thickeners and sweeteners (although some are full on meal replacement products, which is different).

You're going to be much better off reducing calories but not pretty much cutting out ANY nutrition for this two week period. Protein isnt the only thing you need. Same with after the surgery. I dont know why doctors recommend Protein Shakes and not Optifast because they're not really going to provide complete nutrition.

You make a really great point! I'll have to talk with my doctor about this next time I see him. Thanks for your input.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
