Am I the only one that thinks this is a diet?

Recommended Posts

I am with everyone who says this is not a diet. Diets don't work! We are all living proof of that.

I also refuse to count calories, journal, etc. I have no intention of doing that for the rest of my life so I see no reason to start out that way.

You dont need to count calories or journal the rest your life. But i think it helps during the start of your weight loss or if your stuck with the weight loss. Just some friendly advice after looking at your band date and weight loss so far. GOOD LUCK!

I remember when the scale wouldn't move out of the 330's; 300's; 250's and it's in the 220's now.

I look back and think that was a long time ago but it really wasn't. It was only a couple of months ago.

a couple of months from now when you are in the 250's you will look back and think the same.

I sure cant wait! lol

Not quite sure what that is supposed to mean but I am quite happy with my loss so far. It isn't a contest or a race and I am quite happy with my average loss of 2.8 lbs per week. I don't need to compare myself with others to make myself feel good. I am doing this for myself and no one else.

Perhaps your "friendly advice" should be reserved for those who ask for your advice.

No I feel the same way, banded on April 20th 2010,but count calories and carb's still or no weight loss. The only difference is you can't go on a huge food binge and break your diet or continue to eat.If I want to obbsses on food I watch the food channel.

I haven't counted crap. I don't count calories, carbs, Protein, fat, sugar, etc. I eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full. To me, that's not a diet. A diet is restriction and being hungry. I've done WW before and so many times I've gone to bed hungry because I didn't have any more points, or fretted about a birthday party and whether or not I could have a piece of cake.

Now, I do eat differently than before. I use my daughter's small plates (a bit smaller than a salad plate). I eat much much slower. I eat my Protein first. Most ofthe time I have to avoid most breads.

But for me, it's not a diet. I was at a birthday party at chuck e cheese today and had a slice of b-day cake without having to worry about counting colories or carbs. I just ate a lot less cake.

I am right there with you. If people want to turn this into a diet and a part time job I say let them go right ahead. Whatever works for them is up to them and fine by me. That is their journey and this is mine. I chose to turn it into a lifestyle for the rest of my life and intend to have a few pieces of cake, a few french fries and whatever else I want along the way. Today I had half a small sleeve of McDonalds fries and they were yummy! I did not eat them all because I got full and they got cold as I ate them slowly and chewed them to smithereens. Now the old me would have eaten the entire extra large size along with a Big Mac! I am not crying over it, guilty, feeling like a failure or any of the other multitude of emotions that I see posted by people on these threads when they think they "cheated".

Maybe it might take me a little longer if I don't count every morsel but that is ok - this is about a lifetime - not a number on a scale. I don't need to add any unnecessary stress to my life. My choice is everything in moderation but no obsessing over anything. Been there, done that and had to get banded due to all that great "dieting" I have done over the years - no thank you!

pickles.... i feel fustrated too.

I was banded in SEPT 30th 2009.

Since then i have had 6 fills and still very little restriction. I have lost 40 lbs and that makes me happy. But to be honest with all the changes i have made in my daily life i thought i would be much closer to my goal ( -100 lbs)

I think the band is a Tool that compliments a DIET.

I try not to dreprive myself of nothing, becuase from experiance that is how past diets haved failed!!

I have a lot of support from my family and it helps that my 6 year old daughter tell me that i am "melting"

One thing i want to stop doing is getting on the scale so much... in the last 3 months i have been stuck. I want to focus on how my clothes fit.

I am not going to give up... I have 3 young kids that depend on me to be healthy so that i can take care of them.

Best of luck with your new band!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
