Having some discomfort when eating

Recommended Posts

Hi,

So far everything has been great since I was banded on April 28th. I am at 8.5cc's with an appointment on July 15th for .5cc's more. My only hang-up is that I usually feel discomfort when I eat. I'm careful on my selections, reasonable in my quantities, I chew things to death, etc. The best way to describe it is that I feel each bite slide through slowly (which can be uncomfortable), and then it "drops" into my stomach, which doesn't feel great either. After a few bites this usually mellows, but not always. With the exception of Soups or soft foods (yogurt, etc.), this tends to happen with everything. It was even happening prior to my last fill, so I don't think I'm too tight (?). I was actually thinking that I may need more Water, but I do drink alot of liquids. I've also thought that maybe I'm waiting too long between meals and always eating when I am too empty?.....just not sure. I've lost 30lb's and everything is ticking along nicely...besides what I've explained. No regrets...just want to get this under control! Any thoughts? Thanks!

To me it sounds as though you are too tight. I wouldn't go for that next fill if anything i would get a small quantity taken out.

This is something you should talk to your band doctor about. If you're feeling discomfort, you should definitely have a little bit of Fluid removed. It definitely isn't normal. I've only felt that if I was taking bites of food that were too big and not chewing enough. Even then, I never feel it "fall" into the bigger part of my stomach. I've had the band since 2007, and I've had a lot of "weird" things happen with the band, but that was never one of 'em.

Thank you for the replies. I will definately talk to him about it and watch my bites and chewing habits in the meantime.

I was banded on May 17th, and have had two fills. I now have 7ccs in a 10cc band. I have the same feeling that you have and was just going to post a question about it. The reason I don't think I'm too tight is because even though I can feel the food going down (and there is discomfort with it) I can still eat more than I think I should be able to eat. I stop eating not because I'm full, but because I'm tired of chewing so much! It takes about 20 minutes to eat a baked chicken breast. I chew, chew, chew and take small bites and do not drink when I eat or for 30 minutes after. If you find anything out, please pass it on. Good luck.

I am very tight in the morning and can usually only do yogurt. By after noon I am fine and can eat close to a half cup of food.

Is every meal uncomfortable to you?

My PA gave me the go ahead to drink Water right up until I eat. I think that helps because I didn't like the feeling of dry food in my stomach.

Erika, it is supposed to take you 20 - 30 minutes to eat. That is one of the points of the lapband. To slow down our eating.

I realize this, but aren't you supposed to be full at that point? I stop eating not because I'm full but because I'm just tired of doing it and it hurts.

Don't eat until you're full. Eat until you are satisfied or not hungry any longer.

When you quit eating, are you still hungry or is your boredom your queue that you've had enough?

There are some foods that I just can not tolerate no matter how tight I am. My stomach is very sensitive to some foods. I think this may be something you should consider.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
