How much Hair loss is normal?

I find myself forgetting how much hair I was losing pre-surgery and can't figure out if the strands I find on my clothing is normal.

My gut is that I'm losing more hair than I typically did, although it is not a lot. I have super thick hair, so Im not so concerned yet, but I've read that even people with thick hair have lost half or more of their hair. I don't want to be one of those people!

Im only a month post-op, and dealing with all these changes has been hard. I don't want to deal with hair loss now too

So, at what point should I be concerned that I am losing too much hair? And I am reading about Biotin and Nioxin Shampoo and people seem to have varying results. Any others ideas?

(I will obviously consult my physician about this as well, just curious to hear from fellow bandsters.)

I lost more than normal, but my hair is thick so it wasn't bad. It seemed to increase around 3 or 4 months post op. My friend said it is due to having major surgery/anesthesia. She had it happen after each of her c sections, and, sure enough, I had an increase of hair loss again 3 months after my hysterectomy last year. It does stop. I think someone on here said their band doc joked that none of his patients were bald, so it will stop!

As far as supplements helping, some say Biotin helps, others claim it does nothing. As far as I know, it can't hurt, so you may want to start taking some. Good luck.

It will grow back. Trust me. Dont do anything to it. If youre insecure, about Hair loss, do what I done, cut it off and wear wigs. Mine look so real, and tbh theyre not so expensive. And believe it or not since I havent touched my hair, and keep it regularly groomed and clean, its thicker than it was before. Yes its strange, but it just happened that way. Ill keep it short until I get both my surgeries done. My revision from the band to gastric. Thats 3 hours under, and I can imagine Im going to be losing lots more. Thank God for the invention of wigs.

Oh its not all about Protein, make sure your taking your Vitamins, take some Biotin and some b vitamins. Give it time, your body will naturally adjust. People say its all about protein. But its not trust me. Ive talked to a lot of people that know. Yes keep it up to stay healthy. But for Hair loss, that is your own personal way to dealing with trauma. Your hormones are off, everything in your system is off balance. So, give it time, it will grow back. So dont worry bout it k.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
