I'm not there yet, but I'd take it slooooowly. I survived quite well for a week after I had all 4 wisdom teeth out on pureed fruit, low fat custard and yogurt and blended family meals.

At present I"m having a bit of a cookup like I did when my babies were just starting solids. A pot of lamb shanks, pumpkin, some green vegies, simmer it all up in stock and then puree it, freeze in half cup portions.

I think it's important not to just eat yogurt, cottage cheese and fruit - you need your vegies and you need some decent Protein. But you can puree very very smooth like you do for a baby, and gradually make the mix lumpier over the 2 weeks or so you're on mushies.

When you are on mushies, your fluids are still a priority. It is sometimes difficult to get the fluids in when you are eating solids so plan accordingly. 30 minutes before you eat and 1 hour after is a great rule to follow. Keep up the great work. Don't forget about sugar free popsicles.

I was scared to eat mushies when I first started them. But the urge to have something solid in my mouth overcame the fear. The first things I ate were whipped mashed potatoes and cottage cheese. As I ate I noticed a pressure in my chest and realized that my stomach was telling me that I was full. I went a little overboard but the most that I got was a little achey. If you take it easy, listen to what your body is telling you. And believe me it will give you a warning, You should be just fine. Next week I'm going to be starting solid foods and that frightens me a little, but I know if I eat just a little at a time I will adjust to it. You will be fine. All of us experience alittle fear now and then.

I think most of were afraid to eat the soft foods. I purchased a babyfood maker at Walmart for about $15.00. I would puree soft things like mac and cheese, fat free hot dogs and ketchup ( I know it sounds gross but it tastes the same) you can puree just about anything. Once you get used to tasting real food and how to control your band instead of visa versa it does get easier infact wait until it gets too easy. Also try mixing your Protein Shakes with the processor and ice it makes it into a shake. Good luck before long you will be on solids. However, there will always be that little voice in your head that asks can I keep that down and should I be eating it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
