Hey everyone! My names Cat and I've only just recently started talking to my dr about weight loss surgery... Ok.. so maybe she brought it up to me! I've struggled with weight my entire life, starting at about age 5. I've tried every diet I can think of, and have lost weight with diet and exersize, and always yo-yo'd back. The lowest adult weight I've ever been is 268lbs... and I actually felt really good being that weight, though I know I still needed to lose more. Since then I've had a baby and gained so much, I'm the heaviest I've ever been!

My dr has finally asked me to do research as she's never had a patient have weight loss surgery and even she doesn't know that much about it.. and this was one of the first places I found that has given me a lot of useful info! So thanks everyone! I'm sure you'll be hearing a lot from me in the future, and I look foreward to getting to know you guys.:):(

Thank you! I just had a great dr's appointment. She's getting in touch with a surgeon for me to find out more information on prices, the procedure etc. I love that my dr is so supportive. I know she cares, she's known me my whole life! (She caught me being born lol)

Hi; Welcome to a fellow British Columbian. I had the surgery in Tijuana with Dr. Ortiz as I wanted to do it as quick as possible and I also was a self pay so it cost me 8,000 to fly to San Diego and then after pick up have the surgery and fly back. If you are wanting it done in Vancouver the False Creek Surgery clinic costs around 16,000 but they have a very good reputation. I have lost 33 pounds and I wish it was more but I still lose a constant pound a week so I only have 38 more weeks to be at my chosen weight. If you are on the Island they have a support meeting once a month at the Vic general and it is really good to go and share your ups and downs. I wish you the best as you start your journey and remember one step at a time.

Oh that's fantastic that you've lost that much! A pound a week is awesome! I know wanting to lose faster is always deseired, but a constant loss like that is really best for our health isn't it? I'd be happy anyway hehe. 16000, eek, that's a lot! I heard it's generally around 13000 around here.. but maybe that's just certain offices. I'm on the mainland, so I think I'll be going to the lions gate meeting, though it is great to hear others are around! COngrats on your loss so far!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
